We have had an extremely busy week this week in RH.
We have been:
- creating and following treasure maps to fine golden coins;
- visiting the farm classroom and learning about plants;
- planting cress seeds and watching them grow;
- learning about cricket in PE and
- we’ve been to visit Canada!
Shailen had been to Canada so we used a map to find Canada and talked about how he got there. He told the class all about Niagra Falls and said that he’d had pancakes for breakfast. He asked if we could go to Canada so we said we could pretend!
The children made passports and were given a ticket with a letter and number written on. They had to find their seat by reading the letters and numbers on the ticket. The children flew to Canada on an aeroplane flown by Pilot Hutchinson and Pilot Gregory. On arrival in Canada, the children were treated to a pancake with Canadian maple syrup made by Chef Puddiphatt. We then flew back to school.

This week has been very busy in RF!
One of our focus children was very interested in baking and the story of The Gingerbread Man so we combined these interests and the result was lovely gingerbread men biscuits. Some children joined in with this and read the story, made shopping lists, collected the ingredients and made the biscuits.
Another child liked shopping so we set up our own shop. The children found trolleys and tills and decided what to sell. Lots of the children joined in to write price tags for the goods on sale.
We have also been finding out about the numbers 9, 10, 11 and 12. We talked about each number and which number comes before and after it. Then we put the numbers in order. Some children practised writing the numbers in the sand and we also had shaving foam out for the children to practise writing the phonemes of the week and our tricky word.
Finally some children are very interested in working on the computer so we showed them how to draw a picture using the Dazzle programme.
Enjoy our pictures of our busy week!

Another fun and busy week in Nursery! We have been doing lots of fun activities around the area of learning called ‘Understanding the World’. We have…
* Explored the conservation area
* Looked after 2 Giant African Land Snails
* Explored autumnal objects (thank you to everyone who contributed to our collection)
* Finding places we have visited on a World map.
The children have been so busy this week playing the game Scaredy Cat, using tap sticks, making orange and cinnamon play dough, baking, playing in a big box, making toast, drawing pictures on the interactive whiteboard, a treasure hunt and so much more!
We are sure the children are looking forward to a rest this weekend!
We have now started leading books to the children every Tuesday and Wednesday. Please make sure your child has a bag on these days. Books need to be brought back each week.
We continue to model how to solve minor conflicts and say ‘sorry’, use the words ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and share toys.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and it stays sunny!

This week our focus children were very interested in gymnastics and this excited the rest of the class as well. They didn’t know about our famous ex-pupil Nile Wilson who competed for Great Britain at the last Olympic games and won a bronze medal so we used the internet to find out about him. The children were very impressed with him so they asked if they could do some gymnastics. We cleared the middle of the classroom and put down some mats. Lots of the children practised their forward and pencil rolls. Then in PE today we had the equipment out and the children had the opportunity to climb ladders, swing on ropes and bounce on the mini trampolines. What fun they had as well as getting lots of exercise!

We have had a fantastic week in Nursery. The children have really settled well and are learning the routines. We have had fun…
• playing musical instruments
• being creative – painting, cutting and gluing
• getting wet in the water
• exploring our outside environment
• singing songs
• listening to stories
• using the woodwork bench
• being creative in the playdough
• playing in the home corner
• making toast
• using our special apple corer!
The children have also been learning our ‘Golden rules’ – good sitting, kind hands, good listening, good sharing and good waiting.
We have been encouraging the children to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and take turns when playing with things. Those children who stay for lunch are practising holding a fork and knife and cutting up their own food.
We have also been discussing the days of the week, date, month and season. This lead to talking about Autumn. We would to have some Autumn objects like leaves, conkers and acorns in Nursery for the children to explore further. So if you go on any walks then it would be great if you bring some autumn things in for us to share.
It’s been a lovely week; we hope the children have enjoyed it as much as we have!
Have a great weekend!
