The children have really enjoyed getting into the theme of Hallowe’en this week. Have a look at some of the things they have been doing…

We have been busy doing lots of other things as well…

One of the most important things we work on in Nursery is language development as well as speaking and listening skills. Every few weeks we will have a word we concentrate on and provide the children with different meanings for each word. Our first such word is ‘tall’. We chose this word as the children were using it frequently in their play but not always getting the meaning correct. It word be great if you can use this word at home with your child so they understand it’s meaning. Have a look at our word poster…

This week the children have also been taking part in lots of physical activities which develop gross motor skills. The development of these skills has a positive impact on their fine motor skills and in turn helps with their writing ability. Have a go with one of their favourites at home…
Ask your child to teach you the moves!
There are lots of other similar activities on Youtube, just search ‘Write Dance’ and have fun!
Enjoy your week off, from the Nursery team

Phonics

This week we have introduced tricky word ‘to’. We have explained that when reading tricky words you cannot blend the letter sounds, you just need to learn that those letters make a particular word. We continued to practise the word ‘I’ too. Throughout the week we have introduced the phonemes for; m, d and g.

Maths

We have had an exciting week! We have learned about the number 5 and also about sorting. The children have explored different ways of making 5. We have found out that 1 and 4 makes 5. 3 and 2 makes 5 and 0 and 5 makes 5. We have joined in with numberblocks 5 too.

Everything else!

Yet another busy week in Nursery! The children are really enjoying all the areas of provision we have in Nursery. This week we have added some enhancements to our continuous provision. In our ‘Funky Finger’ area we set up a giant spiders web. The children have to use tweezers to catch the spiders! We have collected some autumn leaves and the children have enjoyed looking at them, talking about the different colours and making pictures with leaf prints. Have a look at just some of the things we have been doing this week…

This week the children have been trying to join in with some familiar Nursery Rhymes. Here is one we have been singing in Nursery and the children can practise at home…
Perhaps you could sing some other Nursery Rhymes with your child and they can share them with their friends next week.

Have a good weekend, from the Nursery team.

Maths

This week we have focused on the numbers 3 and 4. We are continuing to explore all aspects of each number to fully understand worth and position. The children have really enjoyed drawing representations and hunting for them.

Phonics

In phonics we have learned tricky word ‘I’ and the phonemes for p, i and n. The children have been working really hard to form the letters using cursive font. It is very difficult at the moment but all the children are trying their best. We will get there!

Everything else!

As usual we have had lots of fun in Reception. Here are some photos to show how busy we have been!

This week the children have really been involved in their play both inside and outside. they are beginning to build up relationships with their peers and are getting to grips with the routines and boundaries in place in Nursery.

Inside the children have been developing the strength in their hands and wrists by hammering golf tees into a pumpkin. This activity not only develops strength but prepares them for holding a pencil and manipulating it for writing. They have been busy with lots of other activities as well…

The children have enjoyed lots of fresh air this week and have done a variety of different activities. They have been planting, playing in the water and gravel and using their imagination with the crates…
This week we have made all the children a ‘mini me’. They have loved playing with them. Some children have shared a book with their mini me and other have taken them for a ride in a vehicle. I wonder what they will do with them next week…
The children have been trying really hard to put their coats on independently. Please continue to support them at home to practise this and especially to hold their sleeves when they take their coat off so the sleeves are not inside out when they need to put their coat back on.
Our story this week has been ‘Fat cat on a mat’. It is another simple rhyming story for the children to join in with some of the words. Please share it with your child and talk about the rhyming words and the pictures. See if they can tell you what will happen at the end before you get to it.
Have a good weekend from the Nursery team
