This week in Nursery

October 22, 2021 at 1:00 pm

Yet another busy week and the last one of this half term. We can’t believe how quickly time has gone and the children have settled so well. It was lovely to chat to so many of you this week and to let you know how your child has settled.

After the half term holiday we will have a new story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ written by Michael Rosen. Lots of children may already be familiar with this book but here is the author reading the story and he has added some actions too…

We know from chatting to parents how popular the ‘Write Dance’ activities have been at home. Here is another one the children have been dancing to in Nursery…

This week the children have been playing with pumpkins in our autumn tray and have enjoyed going on train journeys by driving their own trains on the track. Some children pretended to drive cars and others liked dressing up or playing with the dolls.

Have a look at the photos of the wide variety of activities they have been doing with their friends or on their own…

Have a lovely week off and we will see you again week beginning 1st November from the Nursery team.

This week we have continued learning about patterns. We have made patterns by colour, shape, size, and actions. We have enjoyed singing a shape song. You can join in with the song at home too.

We have had a busy week revising the letter sounds we have learned so far. The children have also learned the letter names and sounds for: o, c and k. We even managed to look at the tricky word ‘no’.

Focus children

Once a term you will receive a letter from your child’s class teacher asking for recent photos and information about their interests. This will help us to plan for your child’s learning the following week. At the end of your child’s focus week, you will receive a learning journey sheet filled with activities your child has engaged in. Thank you for your support.

RPK received a secret message and a pumpkin from the pirates! They have enjoyed getting ready for a pumpkin tea party! Do you like our pumpkin tea?

RPT enjoyed messy pumpkin play and baking/eating roasted pumpkin and pumpkin biscuits. Yummy!

After hearing the fire alarm this week, the children were fascinated by fire and how it works. We have been dressing up as firefighters and trying to put out lots of fires in our classroom!

RPT has been excited by all things Frozen! We created a Frozen area, made snowflakes, and even played in the snow!

Everything else

Individual and sibling photographs will be taken on Tuesday 2nd November and Thursday 4th November. We cannot confirm which day your child will have their photo taken so please come to school smiley and smart on both days!

We hope you have a lovely half-term break! See you in November!

The Nursery children have been learning some number rhymes. Here is one they have been joining in with. Can you have a go at home?

The ‘Write dance’ activities are great favourites with the Nursery children. Here is another one we enjoy…

This week the children had great fun in the woodland area. They had a go on the rope swing and the climbing rope and collected some leaves to use to make crowns. Have a look at the photos…

The children have been doing lots of other things outside…

Inside has been just as busy…

Have you visited the lovely new book shop in Farsley? Our school has a loyalty account with them. Please mention that your child is a pupil at Farsley Farfield when you buy a book from there and we will get points to spend on books for school.

Have a lovely weekend, from the Nursery team

Reception News – 15.10.21

In Maths this week we have been learning about size, mass, and pattern. The children set up a teddy bears’ picnic for a big and a small bear and found big and small items in the classroom. They did very well ordering straws by size and using them to make repeating patterns. For homework this week, we would like the children to create some repeating patterns at home. On Thursday, we used the balancing scales to explore the concepts of heavy and light. The children were very good at predicting if an item was going to be heavier or lighter.

This week during our phonics we have learned the tricky word ‘to’. We have also looked at the letter names and sounds for: m, d, and g. The children have practised blending sounds to read words and they have even managed to match CVC words to pictures.

This week the children have been interested in the leaves that are falling. We have discussed Autumn and touched on the other seasons as well. We have found lots of different coloured leaves to create nature pictures and even used materials to make colourful collages.

We have learned all about ladybirds. We discovered that not all ladybirds are red with black spots. Ladybirds can be yellow, orange, brown, or red with black, white, or red spots. Some even have stripes instead of spots!

The children enjoyed hunting for ladybirds but unfortunately, we did not find any! We did find lots of interesting creatures and still had lots of fun!

Pirates visited RPK and made a big mess! Have you seen them? We have been busy creating wanted posters and making treasures.

This week in maths we have been comparing amounts using the language ‘more’ and ‘fewer’. We have focused on numbers one and two and represented the numbers in different ways.

This week we have learned the tricky word ‘to’. We have looked at the letter sounds and names for: p, i and n. We also practised forming the letter shapes. The children played a phonics game with Mr Fox and blended sounds to read words. They also enjoyed a phonics hunt outside where the children searched for the different letter shapes and completed a tick sheet to gain a sticker.

During our PE session, we got out some apparatus. The children listened well and learned how to stay safe during PE and how to correctly move the apparatus safely. We are continuing to support the children to get changed into their PE kits and dressed again after. Please try to encourage your child to get dressed and undressed at home.

A busy week in Nursery

October 8, 2021 at 12:18 pm

A busy week with four seasons in one week!

The children have continued to enjoy joining in with our story of the half term ‘Dear Zoo’ and have been thinking about the word ‘tall’. They have a good understanding of this word but it would be very helpful if you can reinforce this learning at home.

The children really enjoy joining in with the ‘Write dance’ activities. Here is one we have been doing in Nursery…

Here is one of the number rhymes we have been singing…

The children have been taking part in lots of activities both inside and outside. Most are child-initiated but they have also enjoyed helping to clear our vegetable plot ready to plant some new seeds and listening to stories in small groups as well as so much more! Have a look at our busy week…

The week after next we are having our parent’ evenings. Here is the link to book at time if you haven’t already.

Don’t forget you can ‘like’ the Nursery blog posts or add a comment. It is always lovely to receive feedback on what we have been doing.

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the warm weather, from the Nursery team.

In maths this week we have been matching the same objects. We have also looked at collections of objects and sorted them into sets. We have enjoyed listening to the story The button box. We have practised sorting the buttons by size, colour and pattern.

During phonics, we have looked at what a ‘letter’ is and what a ‘word’ is. We have focused on the letter shapes for: s, a and t. We discussed letter names and phonemes (sounds). The children sorted objects that start with each letter sound and also had a go at forming the letter shapes.

Everything else

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

This week in Nursery

October 1, 2021 at 12:10 pm

This week we have continued to read ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell.

Here is a clip of Justin from Mr Tumble reading the story and adding Makaton signs. Have a go with the signs at home! We have been joining in with the repeated refrain “I sent it back!” and distinguishing between the pictures and the writing.

Can you continue to use the vocabulary contained within the story with your child? This week we have been talking about the word ‘tall’.

We have also been singing some popular Nursery Rhymes. Here is one we have been learning…

Have a look at some of the other things we have been doing this week…

Did you spot the jellyfish the children made outside with water on the path?

As the weather begins to turn more autumnal it is important that the children dress appropriately. Please help them with their self-care skills. At home support them to put their coat on independently and begin to fasten it themselves.

Have a lovely weekend from the Nursery team.
