In Nursery great emphasis is placed on communication and language development. We have been reading the story ‘Dear Zoo’ by Rod Campbell and looking at some of the vocabulary contained in it. This week we have concentrated on the word ‘big’. We talked about what the word meant and found some pictures to represent it. Some children have a wider vocabulary so with these children we talked about words which meant the same.
Please use this word with your child to develop their understanding and increase their vocabulary.
Here is a fun game you can play with your child. It helps them to take turns and develops their vocabulary and communication skills.
We have been very busy again this week. Here are some of the things we have been up to…
And some fun with dinosaurs…

This week the children have experienced whole class carpet times. These sessions are 10-15 minutes long and focus on maths and phonics skills.
We have been practising our counting skills and learning songs to help us. We have enjoyed singing and acting out 5 currant buns!
The children really enjoy learning number with numberblocks. You can play games by clicking this link:
You can also watch episodes on BBC iPlayer:
This week we have played a range of listening games to help the children recognise different sounds in the environment.
We have also been learning the jolly phonics song! You can join in at home too.
This week we had our first PE session. The children listened well and followed the instructions. We discussed warming up our bodies and felt our hearts beat faster before cooling down again. The children impressed us with their changing skills. Keep practising.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!

The children are settling in well and are enjoying playing in the areas of provision. They are establishing the rules and routines and we are pleased to see their happy faces every morning!
We have started our daily dough disco to strengthen finger muscles ready to hold a pencil correctly.

Thank you for all of your support during the stay and play sessions. We are happy to see the children settling in well and making lots of new friends too!
Your child will need a water bottle in school with their name on it, please. Please make sure jumpers and clothes are labelled as the children will get changed for PE on Fridays.
Your child’s PE can stay in school on their peg for the half term.
Please bring a school book bag into school as we always have lots to give out at home time!
Your child can bring in some fruit for snack time if they would like to. Please make sure that it is only fruit because we have children with severe allergies in our classes.
Your child will be able to take a library book home every Friday. Please return the book the following week.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
