A busy week in Nursery

November 13, 2020 at 1:13 pm

This week has been another busy week in Nursery both inside and outside. Some children have made Diva lamps and those who made them last week decorated them this week. Children also had an opportunity to make Diwali cards.

Have a look at some of the other things the children have done this week…
The children really enjoyed our new resource outside. A vehicle which could be a car, a bus, a train or a plane, whatever the children imagined it to be…
Under normal circumstances our parents come into Nursery and have a look at the provision we provide for our children. Here are a few photographs of some of our areas of provision that you do not get to see but that they children enjoy using…
And finally a link to the ‘Write Dance’ activity the children are currently enjoying…
Happy Diwali from the Nursery team.

Our first week back!

November 6, 2020 at 3:48 pm

Phonics

We have continued with ‘tricky word’ Monday. This week ‘the’ has been our focus. The phonemes we have practised are; ck, e and u. The children have learned that when two letters make one sound (ck) it is called a digraph.

Maths

This week have we been learning all about pattern. The children have explored patterns by colour, shape, size, actions and musical instruments. Can you make some patterns at home? You could use toys, leaves or even make music by clapping or using your voice.

We have also joined in with this shape song.

Where’s that treasure?

The children took part in a ‘blending’ treasure hunt. Each clue required the children to blend and read what needed to be found next. Our blending skills are really improving. Great treasure finding Reception!

An Autumn hunt!

The children enjoyed looking for Autumn treasures such as leaves and conkers. If you are going for a walk over the weekend, please collect some autumn treasures and bring them in on Monday! We will enjoy making patterns, counting, sorting and being creative with them. We can’t wait to see what you find!

Everything else!

Have a lovely weekend!

Bonfire night, Divali and much more in Nursery

November 6, 2020 at 2:51 pm

Bonfire Night and Divali

This week we have been talking about Bonfire Night and the fireworks the children might see. They made some lovely firework pictures using their fingers and watched some clips of amazing firework displays. Some of our children are getting ready to celebrate Divali, the Festival of Light. We talked about some people having fireworks on this day as well as some using them to celebrate Bonfire night. We have begun to make some Diva lamps and will paint them next week. Divali is celebrated this year on 14th November so next week the children will have the opportunity to make cards for their family.

Planting

We have also been busy outside planting peas and beans in our new vegetable plot. The children enjoyed digging the deep holes and putting the seeds in. They covered them with soil but we didn’t think they needed to be watered as the soil is very wet. Back inside we talked about the conditions the seeds need to grow and the children knew they must water them regularly so they would grow. The children listened to the story of ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ (I hope they are more patient than Jasper!) Click on the link to share the story with your child.
We have also been continuing with ‘Write Dance’ activities and the children have enjoyed ‘Planting a bean’…

Some other things this week…

EExAT

Just before the holidays I posted a ‘Learning Journal’ page for all the children, have you had a look? This is a new system for us and we are still leaning about it’s capabilities but from next week you will begin to receive observations. You will be able to comment on the observations and add you own.

Have a good weekend, from the Nursery team
