Challenge of the day
Your challenge today is to explore repeating patterns. Can you look at the pictures below and explain the patterns? What should come next?
Can your child create their own pattern using objects found around the house?
If you create a pattern for your child featuring a deliberate mistake can the spot and fix the mistake?
What does your child notice about this pattern? Can they create a pattern like this?
Reception only – Phonics
Please continue to practise cursive letter formation. Some of the letters are very tricky so we have added the PowerPoint slides again to help you.
The letter we are focusing on today is ‘a’. Can you read these words? Can you write them?
We would encourage all children to have a go at writing their name, each day, using cursive letters. If you have managed to learn and write your first name then please have a go at writing your surname also. We included a practise template in your home learning pack.
Here are some useful video links to watch.
Reading at home
There are some super, free eBooks available on: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk You will need to create an account but it is completely free.
Reception only – Maths
We are continuing with 1 more/1 less. Have a go at this activity.
Build a tower with 7 bricks/objects. Can you build two more towers of bricks, one that uses one less than 7 bricks and one that uses one more than 7? Can you put these in an order? What do you notice?
A musical activity
Develop your child’s confidence with rhythm and movement by making music with household items
Help them to create a kitchen band, banging on pots and pans, making rattles and shakers from plastic bottles, twanging elastic wrapped around plastic bowls. Encourage them to play softly, loudly, quickly and slowly.
