This week in Phonics we have been looking at ‘ss’ and ‘j’. The children have played ‘find the phoneme’ and ‘find the word’. They have practised saying and writing the sounds before looking at words that contain them. We have focused on sentences this week. While working in pairs, we have made sentences that read correctly.
Maths this week supported our understanding of 1 more and 1 less. We have played lots of games, used pictorial and concrete representations and even sang the Conga!
Jump, jump and jump!
This week we set up some jumps in our playground. Without any adult prompts the children organised themselves into a queue and were fantastic at taking turns! Some of the jumps were a bit high but lots of children gave them a try.
Outside fun (and mess!)
Rainy weather doesn’t stop our outside fun!
Thank you to the Children’s Centre for donating their quiz night table decorations. The children really enjoyed exploring the sea!

Have a look at a few of the things the Nursery children have been doing this week…
Being physical outside…
Painting using cold colours…
Adding glitter to the pictures to make them sparkle…
What is hiding in the ice?
We put the Lego out and it proved very popular…
And don’t forget our ‘Stay and Stick’ sessions next week!
Enjoy the bright and dry weather this week end, from the Nursery team.

Another busy week!
We have been practising for our two Christmas performances. The children are doing very well learning the songs and today we had our first run through with the reception classes. A great success for the first try.
The performances are on Tuesday 9th December at 9.30am and Thursday 11th December at 2pm. The children will be performing on the day or days they attend Nursery and you will receive a plan of the stage nearer the time to show which side your child will be seated at.
In our ‘Funky Finger’ area this week we have had several different sized jars. This activity involves matching skills, size ordering as well as using their motor skills to screw the lids on to the jars.
We have also had some coloured rice for the children to experience. They have been talking about what it feels like as well as using their fine motor skills to make marks and patterns.
Some children wanted to bake this week so they helped to set up the activity and source the ingredients and equipment they needed. They had great fun making shortbread!
Have a lovely weekend, from the Nursery team.

This week we have continued to practice the previously learnt tricky words (I, to, the, go and no). We have been spotting these words in sentences and having a go at writing them. The children have learnt the phoneme l and the digraph ll. We have looked at words with these sounds in them and then had a go at writing them.
Such a busy maths week! The children have been solving practical problems involving 1 less. We have used lots of different manipulative to show 1 less and had a go at writing number sentences. We have continued our mathematical language by encouraging the children to use few/fewest and less/least. We’ve organised a tea party and acted out 5 little speckled frogs!
Busy Bee books
This week we have introduced the children to writing sentences. We have discussed what is needed (Capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop) to create a good sentence. Some of the children have had a go at writing a sentence in their Busy Bee books.
We have experienced a range of weather conditions this week. But nothing stops us from getting outside.
Some children wanted to bake. We discussed adding healthy ingredients, measurements and safety when cooking.
This week the whole of Reception took part in a joint PE lesson. We had an exciting morning rehearsing for the upcoming show and therefore decided to complete some exercise videos together. We had lots of fun!

We had a special visitor this week! The children were very excited when we told them we were having a visitor. They made him feel very welcome with hugs and high-fives! Thank you to Finley’s Mum and Olivia’s Mum for organising and supporting Pudsey.
This week we have been practising our previously learnt ‘tricky words’. We looked at; to, the, I, go and no.
We have focused on ‘f’ and ‘ff’ this week. Looking at the sounds and the formation. This is quite a tricky letter to form. Any practise at home will be beneficial.
Maths has been very exciting this week. The children have been focusing on ‘one more’. On Monday we organised a tea party for the three little pigs and helped them add one more of everything when an unexpected visitor arrived. We have been adding one more with various different resources and are even starting to write number sentences. On Thursday we had a very excited maths lesson in the hall. We were all turned into frogs and enjoyed adding one more frog to each lily pad- we were rather noisy frogs!
All snuggled up for a cosy story
This week the weather has been cold and wet so we decided to snuggle up for a story by the fire! The book we read had lots of adjectives to hopefully inspire the children for their Children In Need outfits.
Children in Need Fun
We have had an exciting and busy day. We put money on Pudsey Bear, joined in with some Joe Wick’s Children in Need exercise videos and read with our reading buddies from Year 3.
Homework this week is to practise cursive letter formation.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend and you don’t get too wet!

Today is Children in Need Day and the children in Nursery have been taking part enthusiastically! At the beginning of the week we had a visit from Pudsey himself. Today the children have been putting their donations onto a large cutout of the bear. Then they helped to sort all the money into silver and copper coins.
Today we have had both Year 3 classes visit the Nursery children to read to and share books. Everyone had a good time and the youngest children enjoyed listening to the older children reading stories to them.
This week we have been encouraging the children to write their names…
Reading buddies part 2…
Have a good weekend, from the Nursery team.

This week we have learnt trick word ‘go’ and the phonemes; u, r, h and b.
This week in maths we have been comparing quantities. We have discussed and used mathematical language such as: most, least, more, less and fewest. The children really enjoyed exploring the classrooms to discover how they can show this.
We also introduced Cuisenaire Rods for the children to explore. We found out which was the longest and the shorted and how many of one rod it takes to make another.
The children have all been excited by the fireworks this week. We decided to let the children explore different ways for producing their own firework pictures.
Visiting the farm
Some children enjoyed visiting the farm this week. We went inside the chicken pen and touched a few! Well done to those children who managed it!
This week the children have show a real interest in snakes. We examined some real snake skin and watched a fact file video explaining the different species. The children then drew their own snakes by either copying a printed pattern or creating their own.
This week we have sent the children home with a communication book. Each week there will be a new task for you to complete with your child. We hope you will enjoy exploring some of the learning that has taken place in school.
Enjoy your weekend.

Autumn has arrived and children have been collecting conkers. We have been using them to do some printing using metallic paints. The children rolled the conkers in the paint and then took a print.
This week was Bonfire Night and we have been talking about fireworks. The children have been using a variety if media to create pictures. Some are displayed on the wall in Nursery. Have a look at some of the others…
String and brushes
A few other things…
As you can see we have had another busy week!
Don’t forget that next Tuesday is our Open Evening. This is a drop in session to have a look around Nursery and chat to staff. We are here until 6 pm and hope to see lots of you.
Have a good weekend, from the Nursery team.
