Harvest Festival, Sorting and a Special Visitor

Friday 18th October | 5 comments

We have introduced tricky word ‘no’ this week. The children really enjoyed answering ‘NO!’ when asked if they could remember the word of the week.

The sounds that we have focused on are ‘g’ ‘o’ ‘c’ and ‘k’. Mrs Spencer had a very special visitor for us beginning with ‘K’ can you child remember who it was?

In maths this week we have been sorting by shape, colour, size and number. The children found lots of opportunities to demonstrate these skills during their choosing time.

Ice Cream Parlour

When we had some new sand scoops delivered some of the children thought they looked like scoops they would use for ice cream. They decided they’d like to transform the role play area into an ice cream parlour. We started with tissue paper ‘ice cream’ but, later in the week, the children decided to make some play dough to use.

In the craft area, they made cones and lollies to add to the shelves and enjoyed selling all sorts of treats to their friends. This provided us with lots of opportunities to talk about healthy eating. The children decided that ice cream every day might sound like fun but would probably give them a tummy ache! Most children could explain that ice cream was ok as an occasional treat.

Apple Cakes

Some children visited the orchid to collect juicy apples for our cakes. We carefully peeled and cut the apples before placing them into a cake mixture. We discussed healthy eating and not having too much sugar. The children really enjoyed tasting them!

School Trip Reminder

We need to politely remind parents/carers that our school trip is on Wednesday. We still have some children who are yet to be given permission. If this is not received these children will not be able to attend. If you have paid on ParentPay there is no need to return the paper form. Thank you to the parents/carers who have volunteered to support the trip. We will be sending volunteer packs out on Monday. If anyone else would like to offer their assistance then please notify the Reception team.

Have a fabulous weekend,

The Reception Team
