RH and RK learning this week

Thursday 28th March | No comments yet

This week in phonics we have revised the digraphs oa, or, long oo and short oo. The children have read words and sentences which have words such as wood, moon, goat and corn in. They have practised writing a sentence containing a word with one of the digraphs, for example ‘The goat is sad’.

The children have also completed a phonic assessment, recognising digraphs and trigraphs learnt and reading them in words.

The children have been encouraged to write in their Mother’s day cards or about their mummy’s in their busy bee books.

We have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes. We discussed the names of some common 2d shapes such as circle, square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, octagon and their properties. We know that 2d shapes are flat.

The 3d shapes we have learnt about are sphere (Sofia as they pronounce it), cylinder, cube, cuboid and square based pyramid. We learnt about how many faces they have, edges and corners. We looked at real 3d objects and sorted them out in to their correct groups.
