Lots of learning in RH and RK this week!

Thursday 14th February | 1 comment

This week in phonics the children have learnt the tricky word ‘be’. They have thought of a sentence using the word ‘be’, read sentences with the word ‘be’ in and practised spelling it. The children are enjoying listening to the tricky word song it helps them to remember some of the tricky words learnt so far!

In phonics we have learnt a new digraph – ee. The children have done really well thinking of their own ee words and writing them down. They are also getting better at working out which words are made up or alien words for example theet, queet.  There was also a lot of talk about words where we hear the ‘ee’ digraph but it is spelt ‘ea’ like in the word meat. We introduced the children to a trigraph, 3 letters which make 1 sound – igh.

In maths we have continued our work on addition and subtraction, this time in word problems. In RH we have been number detectives solving problems for the 3 Little Pigs. In RK they have been solving problems with the titanic, Minecraft and Disney Princesses! The children had to really listen to the words in the problems to work out if they needed to + or -.
