This week in RF

June 8, 2018 at 2:50 pm

This week the children have been very busy again.

In Maths we have been learning about position using vocabulary such as next to, behind, in front of , under and over. After a class session one child went to find some soft toys and practised what he had been learning.

The children have been producing lots of independent writing this week. At the beginning of the week all the children chatted about what they had been doing in the holidays and chose a picture from Google images related to this. Then they all wrote a sentence about what they had done. We have been writing lists as a class and some children have written their own lists related to what they have been interested in. One girl wanted to make play dough and another one wanted to bake so they wrote lists of the ingredients they needed.

We have had a variety of interests this week including dinosaurs and castles and snails. I collected some interesting pebbles whilst on holiday and set a challenge for the children. All the pebbles had white lines on them and I asked them to see if they could join them up to make a continuous line. Then they children painted them with water to see how they changed when they got wet.

Next week we will be revising addition and practising all Phase 2 and 3 phonemes especially reading them in words.

Have a good weekend from the RF team.

Last term in Nursery!

June 8, 2018 at 12:55 pm

Welcome back! We hope you have had a lovely week. The children have come back to school with great enthusiasm.

We have been spending a lot of time exploring our outdoor environment. We released our tadpoles back to the school pond, although they had got bigger we thought they would thrive better being back in their natural habitat. Some children have been finding about what a ‘bug hotel’ is. Mrs Myers made 2 this week and the children have been intrigued to see if they can see any bugs using them.

In our phonic work we have revised the sounds and actions for the phonemes s, a, t, i, p, n and learnt m. The m phoneme makes a long continuous sound and our lips are closed. We are really impressed at how well the children are doing segmenting simple 3 letter words like m-a-p and m-o-p.

The children have been working on counting objects which can’t be moved like claps and jumps. It is hard to count objects that can’t be touched so we will be practising every day.

We also gave the children groups of objects to sort. How could we sort them out? Could it be by colour, by pattern? They were able to explain their ideas.

Do we like frozen apples?

When collecting fruit this week we noticed that the apples were very cold. “You can’t eat frozen apples.” I suggested freezing an apple to test if this could happen. Surprisingly once the apple was sliced it could be eaten although a lot of children thought it was cold on their teeth. Some even preferred frozen apples to normal apples!

Reception Open Evening

Don’t forget we are holding our Reception Open Evening on Tuesday 12th June at 7pm in the North building. We look forward to seeing you and giving you your welcome pack.

Harlow Carr

Hopefully most children will have received their letter for our trip to Harlow Carr in July. If not by Monday, they will have all been distributed. We really do need lots of parent support on this trip as we work to a ratio of 1 adult to 3/4 children so please if you are able come and enjoy an amazing day out at these beautiful gardens.

Our week in photos…

Have a wonderful weekend.
