Happy New Year to everyone!
The children have quickly settled back into school life and have enjoyed seeing their friends again.
We are continuing with our focus children this term so each child will have another opportunity to bring the camera home for a weekend and then have their learning personalised the following week. We have had some very interesting activities and themes as a result of this and I am looking forward to more exciting things this term.
Next we our tricky word will be ‘we’ and our new sounds will be x, y, z and zz. Please help your child to learn these and look out for them in the environment and in any books you may share together.
We are also having a focus on Shape, Space and Measure. The children have some work on capacity in their communication books today and next week we will have 2D and 3D shapes for the children to learn about as well as timers around the room for them to time their activities independently. To help their learning at home please talk about different shapes and also the different ways of measuring time.
Please remember to send book bags every day with reading books and reading records in them and their PE kit on Fridays.
Have a good weekend from all the staff in RF.

The children have returned to school with great enthusiasm. It has been lovely to share the photos you sent in via Tapestry. The children have told us in great detail what they have been doing in the holidays. If you haven’t already uploaded your photos to Tapestry we would love to share them with your child. If you need any support to do this then please let us know.
Reception School Places
Next week we will be reminding all our parents about the upcoming deadline for applying for a reception school place for your child. If you need support in applying online then please let us know and we can take you through the process.
Stay and Read
We will be starting our Stay and Read sessions on the week beginning the 15th January. These sessions offer you the opportunity to come and share books with your child. The sessions will run from 8.45-9.15 and 12.30-1pm. If your child doesn’t attend Nursery this day please feel free to come another day. Letters will be sent out next week.
The children have been exploring ice this week and this has led to us investigating freezers and making potions. They have also had lots of fun dancing – copying actions to songs and creating their own dances to music. More and more children are developing their mark making skills and making good attempts at writing their names.
Here’s a selection of photos from our 3 day week…
Have a great weekend!

The children have enjoyed coming back to school and settling back in to routines.
This week we have discussed New Year’s resolutions and what they are. We linked this to the work we did before the holidays for charity and explained that the money the children raised for Oxfam meant they were being ‘good citizens’. We talked a lot about the word citizen and what it means. The children came up with lots of resolutions including helping with cleaning and cooking at home!
We have also learnt about:
*Estimating – we have discussed what the word estimate means and discussed how to make a good estimate by linking it to larger or smaller amounts.
*Fossils – we have learnt about what fossils are and where they come from. We have put some fossils in the freezer ready to dig out of the ice next week!
*Hospitals – we have talked about hospitals and what Doctors and Nurses do to help us. We read ‘Topsy and Tim go to the Hospital’ and the children spoke about their visits to hospitals.
Don’t forget we have a second ‘Learning about Literacy’ event on Thursday 11th January at 6.30pm. This is a repeat of the Literacy event that was held in November and is being held for those who couldn’t attend the first one.
Have a lovely weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.
