A busy week in Reception…

Friday 18th November | 1 comment

Thank you to everyone that came to the Reception Literacy Workshop. It’s really beneficial for us to share how we teach children to read and write, and to suggest ideas to help you support at home. If you didn’t attend, we have put the handouts in the children’s bookbags today. If you have any questions about the evening, please contact your child’s class teacher.

We showed the ‘Jolly Phonics’ video during the evening which models  how to pronounce the Phase 2 phonic sounds correctly and it includes actions.

It has been very exciting in RH’s classroom this week as the role play area has turned into an Ice Castle! The children have enjoyed putting logs on the fire and playing with the penguins.

They have also been busy:

decorating the castle by copying a polar bear picture out of a book

and dressing up!

As well as the Ice Castle, we have also been making our new small world area. The children decided they wanted a castle. Here is how we made it:

The children have started learning about castles and who lives in them. Next week, the children have asked to learn about dragons!

In numeracy, we have learnt about the numbers 14,15,16 and 17. The children have been using Numicon to make the numbers and have been experimenting with making the numbers in different ways. They have also been working on their number formation this week and have been doing a great job!

We have learnt the sounds:
