Welcome back Reception

We hope the children have had a lovely rest over the half term. They were certainly ready for learning again on Monday morning.
We have had a very busy week this week.
We have recapped all the sounds the children learnt before half term and we have been practising blending sounds together to read CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, for example p/ i /n to make pin. Our new sounds this week are:
On Monday, we talked about celebrating Diwali and lots of the children made Diwali cards.
RH also made a Creepy Crawly Soup which they later tasted. Click on the link to see the recipe. The children had to read through instructions to know what to add and the amount to add. Whilst reading the instructions, the children used the pictures and the first letter of the words to help decode them. Some children also noticed that the first word ‘add’ was repeated so they were remembered this word and were able to read it at the beginning of each instruction.
See if you can recognise any of the witches in this video…
The children have also been learning about Bonfire Night. They have learnt about Guy Fawkes and we have also talked about fire safety as part of our class assemblies this week.
Thank you to all the adults who took part in our event this morning. It was a lovely to see so many adults and there was a great atmosphere. The children loved singing around the fire and they also enjoyed taking your orders for hot chocolate and crispy cakes – we hope you all received what you asked for! If you couldn’t make it, the video below gives you an idea of all the exciting activities the children have completed this week.
Have a lovely weekend.
