A Princess party and a beanstalk growing in reception…

Wednesday 30th March | 1 comment

A huge well done to all the children in Reception who made the Princess’ birthday one to remember. They worked incredibly hard to make it a huge success and we had a lovely time at the party last week.

This week we have been reading the story ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and we have compared the story to ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’. The books sparked  lots of discussions about how seeds grow which leads us nicely into our new topic after the holidays which is ‘Growing’.

The children have been busy making story maps to sequence the story of ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ and have been writing labels and captions to explain what things are. They have also been writing some super sentences to explain what they think will be at the top of the beanstalk.

In maths, the children received a letter from Jasper asking them to help him count his magic beans. The children have been busy sorting normal beans and magic beans and then adding the total number of beans together. Most children are adding with numbers up to 10 and 20 which is great. The children need to be able to add and subtract using numbers to 20 by the end of the year.

We hope the children have a super two weeks break – they fully deserve it after all their hard work!

See you in April!

Jack has loved the work being covered this term on castles, dragons, princesses, etc. It’s really allowed his imagination to develop further (and he does have a fantastic imagination). What fantastic pictures of the princess’ party. Looks like all the children had great fun. I cannot wait to hear all about this new topic.
