The children are getting ready for another exciting week in Reception!
We really hope that you have enjoyed looking at your child’s profile and their reports. If you haven’t already report slips and profiles need to come back to school as soon as you have finished with them.
In our Literacy lessons this week we are talking about the different types of exercises we do to keep healthy. Today we have discussed what exercise the children in Reception do. We were very impressed to hear all about rugby lessons, football lessons, horse-riding lessons, swimming lessons, cycling lessons and much much more. What an active bunch! This week the children will be writing lists, making pipe-cleaner models and labeling different types of sports. Our new tricky word is ‘her‘.
This week in our Maths lessons we are learning all about time. Today we discussed what ‘time’ means to the children. “Time to get up in the morning”, “Alarm clocks”, “Watches tell the time”, “We have snack-time at school” and “There are clocks on the walls” were just some of the responses. This week we will be using ‘time language’ such as yesterday, today, tomorrow, minutes, seconds etc. Maybe you could discuss these words with your child at home. We will be linking this in with exercise and timing our friends using stop watches, sand timers and ipads to see how many star jumps, skips, jumps etc their friends can do in a certain amount of time. We will also be introducing a clock face and begin to talk about o’clock times .
Have a fantastic week and we are looking forward to meeting you all during Parents Evening this week. Please remember Parents Evening will be held in the Junior Building.

The Nursery children have been looking out for patterns everywhere. They have made patterns using pictures, prints, instruments and themselves…
March 9, 2015 at 5:21 pm
Our focus this week is recognising different patterns and seeing if we can spot what comes next. We will be playing lots of interactive games on the computer, printing patterns, using toys, ourselves and musical instruments to make repeating patterns. Can you make a repeating pattern at home and send it to us at school?
Stay and Read
Stay and Read will be on THIS Wednesday and right up until the Easter holidays. After Easter we will be starting Stay and Count – more information to follow soon.
So far we have learnt about being a good citizen and being happy. This week we are looking at the statement ‘I can be healthy’. We are going to be finding ways in which we can be healthy. We are going to see if at the end of the week we are healthy in Nursery.
Letters for parents evening have gone out. It is next week on Tuesday 17th March 3.40-7pm and Wednesday 18th March 3.40-6pm in the South building (juniors). It would be great to see you.
Have a great week.

This week in Reception we are making healthy fruit smoothies! We are also discussing Mother’s day and describing why our Mummies are so special!
This week in our Literacy lessons we are beginning to use Instructional Language. We will be looking at instructions to make a smoothie and thinking about words like first, next, after that and finally. We will be using Pie Corbett’s actions for each of the instructional words. Take a look at the link below to see the actions. https://highheelsandhighnotes.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/pie-connectives.jpg
We will then be writing sentences to describe how we made the smoothies as well as thinking about describing words to explain how the smoothies tasted. Our new tricky word is – my.
This week in our Maths lessons we are beginning to focus on Money. The children will be becoming familiar with the different coins and the value of them. We will be discussing the different colours, shapes and values of coins and figuring out what coins we will need to buy something. We will also be using our Numicon knowledge to match Numicon pieces to different coins.
Don’t forget that this Friday is Red Nose Day. Children can come into school wearing something red or even a silly hair do. Children can bring in donations if they wish.
Have a great week!

Last night was a very unusual night because some of us were at school! At night! In the dark! In our pyjamas!
Staff, parents and children came back to school dressed in pyjamas to have hot chocolate and listen to bedtime stories. The classrooms were decorated with fairy lights and had cosy quilts and cushions to lie on. Mrs Fulton read “Alfie and Annie Rose” stories by Shirley Hughes. Miss Curteis read stories about bears and Mrs Myers read Percy the Park keeper stories. We all had a lovely time but we were definitely ready for bed by the time it had finished.

The Nursery children have been busy learning about the monk David and how he became the patron Saint of Wales. They have created their own daffodil as this is a symbol of remembrance for St David’s day. The had a choice of media to choose from – paint, oil pastels, crayons or felt tips. These are displayed in Nursery and look beautiful. We also had a great time celebrating World Book Day – the costumes looked great! Well done to Billy for winning the best homemade costume.

The children have had a great time today at the library. They listened to stories and sang songs with Claire. They then chose a book to read at school. Thank you to the parents who helped us on the trip. We are now all ready for World Book Day tomorrow!

This week in our Literacy lessons week we will be writing lots of signs to help you find your way to the different story rooms on Thursday evening. The children will also be looking carefully at sentences and deciding if anything is missing e.g full stops, finger spaces and capital letters. Bee jobs this week will include writing words with the digraphs ch, th or sh, matching capital letters, playing phoneme games and exploring our new Smoothie Bar! Our new tricky word this week is was. Bee jobs will include ordering Numicon pieces, using Numicon to double numbers and making patterns with the Numicon.
Have a great week!
