This week in Reception…

March 30, 2015 at 2:44 pm

This week is another very busy week as we are completing our termly assessments. The children are assessed on Numeracy and Literacy and we have already noticed that the children have made very good progress. We find out how many sounds they know and if they know the names of the letters. They also have to write as many key words as they can. In Numeracy we find out how many objects they can count, how many numerals they can recognise and if they can order numbers to 20.
In addition to this the children are learning about the story of Easter. They will have the opportunity to write about the story and produce decorated egg pictures as well as other activities. On Thursday we are finishing the week with an Easter egg hunt. Don’t forget we break up on Thursday! Have a good week, from all in Reception.

Easter fun this week in Nursery….

March 30, 2015 at 12:06 pm

This week is a short one, don’t forget we break up on Thursday 2nd April. We are remembering the Easter story and what happened to Jesus around this time of year.

We are also having a fun Easter week!!! Today the children received a parcel and letter in the post. We opened the parcel to find 6 eggs, 3 white and 3 blue! The letter asked the children to keep the eggs warm for a few weeks and then ‘something’ might pop out and say “hello”. The children thought of lots of things that could be in the eggs….

“A butterfly”, “A dumper truck”, “A ball”, “A baby dinosaur”, “A chick”, “A parrot”, “A little girl” and lots more….

We are also making the finishing touches to our Easter cards and making chocolate Easter nests.

Easter Egg Competition
Don’t forget the North building Easter Egg competition. It will be judged on Thursday. Any entries can be displayed on the stage next to the ‘Nursery’ title.

Ethos Statement
This week the statement we are learning about is ‘I can be a great learner’. We will discuss this and previous statements learnt. How can we be good learners?

We hope you have a super 2 week break and the sun shines a lot! We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 20th April.

The future in Reception

March 27, 2015 at 3:42 pm

Even before this term is over we are already planning what we are going to do after Easter! Our topic is “Growing” and RC will be having a garden centre role play area. In RF there will be Percy The Park Keeper’s Hut to play in. We are in need of a few resources if anyone can help. A small children’s wheelbarrow would be great for Percy’s hut and plant pots, seeds and anything else related to a garden centre would be great. Thank you for your continued support from The Reception Team.

Spring has Sprung in Reception!

March 23, 2015 at 4:18 pm

This week in Reception we are focusing on Spring and all the wonderful things it brings with it!

In our Literacy lessons this week we will be reading lots of different Spring stories, listening to Spring sounds and thinking of words to describe Spring. Will we also be using the iPads to take pictures of signs of Spring we see around our school grounds. Within our Bee Jobs this week we will be painting flowers, sorting ee, igh, ch, th and sh objects and practising writing our letters. Our new tricky word is – they.
This week in our Maths lessons we are introducing the idea of subtraction. We will be doing this very practically and showing the children that subtracting means ‘taking away’ objects from a group. The children will be playing subtraction games on the computers and iPads, using the ducks in the water area to subtract or take away and using Numicon to solve problems too!
This week we will be starting our informal assessments of the children ready for our new Summer term. These assessments help us to make sure we provide accurate next steps throughout the year and we will be updating the children’s targets too. If you have any questions then please do ask!
Take a look at the pictures below to check out some fantastic INDEPENDENT writing about Spring. Well done!

Listen to the meaning of Easter…

It’s nearly Easter…

March 23, 2015 at 12:36 pm

This week we are learning about the meaning of Easter. When we asked the children what happened at Easter they pretty much all replied “The Easter bunny comes and we get lots of chocolate eggs”. We have listened to the story of Jesus and how he died on the cross and came back alive. In preparing for Easter we are practising our fine motor skills by writing our names or an Easter message for our cards. We are starting to make our cards too.
We will be practising our pencil control on special Easter eggs and with some ribbon weaving.

Ethos Statement
Our statement this week is ‘We can be the best we can be’. We will discuss what it means and all the things we can do to be the best we can be. We will also read the other statements we have already discussed – We can be healthy, We can be good citizens, We can be safe.

Deconstruction Area
The children started playing in the deconstruction area. They loved using the boxes to make all sorts of things like aeroplanes, castles and beds. If you have any huge boxes please bring them in. As you can imagine they don’t last long!!!

Have a great week, hopefully the sun will shine!

All things Irish in Nursery this week…

March 16, 2015 at 5:09 pm

‘Top of the mornin to ya!’ Can you guess what we are learning about this week? Yes, Saint Patrick’s Day.

The children will be listening to the story a lot over the week as it is a little more complicated than St Andrew’s and St David’s stories.
As part of our celebrations the children will be creating their own 4 leaf clovers by practising their cutting skills. The children will cut up different green materials to create their clover collages. We will be learning how to Irish dance, mix different shades of green using powder paints and making rainbow buns.

We continue to practise counting and playing number games. We will be learning a new Irish counting song too.

Parents Evening
Thank you to everyone who has made an appointment for tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday. These days are now full. If you would like to make an appointment outside of these days then please contact me on: [email protected]

Ethos Statement
This week we are learning about being safe – ‘I can be safe’. We will be looking at the ethos statements we have already learnt and discussing how we can be safe at home and at school.

Have a cracking week!
