Busy, busy in RS and RC this week!
Monday 16th June | No comments yet
What a busy start to the week! RC spent the day at The Sealife Centre and had a super time. RS class have been busy doing lots of bee jobs!
Literacy in RC this week will focus on writing a recount of their trip to The Sealife Centre. They will have the opportunity to draw and label a sea animal they saw on the trip. They can read and answer questions about creatures from under the sea. Both classes are working towards creating a large collage fish to display outside Year 1.
Literacy in RS we are reading the book ‘Sharing a Shell’. The children will be thinking about what they would like to have in their own shell as well as focusing on what they are good at sharing. We are encouraging children to do observational drawings of shells. They have to look at the shape, colours and patterns.
In Mathematics we are contiuing to write all the numbers to 20 the correct way round and count back from 20 to 0. Our main focus is learning how to solve addition calculations using a number line – preparation for Year 1! The children normally use objects and their fingers so a number line is very different. We are practising finding a number from a calculation and counting on a number very carefully to find the answer.
Don’t forget our trip to the Sealife Centre is on Thursday. The children need to arrive at school before 8.50 classroom doors will open earlier. Named packed lunches will also need to be handed to a member of staff on the morning.
Well done to all the children who rode their bikes and scooters on the time trial. George Higgins will be representing the Reception co-hort – good luck!
Have a great week, let’s hope the sun shines.
