This week we have looked at the tricky words we have learned so far. We have also looked at the phonemes ‘v’ and ‘w’. The children are now writing words in phoneme frames and are beginning to write sentences.
This week in maths we focussed on sequencing morning and evening activities and practised forming the numbers to five. We also learned what nocturnal animals are.
We have sent home a learning pack for January. Once school opens (which we hope it will) you will need to return the pack unopened. In the event that school does not open we will be in contact with instructions for home learning.
Have a lovely couple of weeks off.

This week has been party week in Nursery. The children enjoyed preparing for it as well as having fun on the day.
All things glittery!
The children made their own party hats with lots of glitter. Some also decorated trees and made very some very sparkly pictures.
The children enjoyed dancing to Christmas music…
Pass the parcel fun!
The all important food!
And finally, a special visitor!
Today the children will be bringing packs home in case of a lockdown in January. Some have been sent with older siblings and others will be delivered after the holidays if your child attends Nursery at the beginning of the week.
Please return them after Christmas unopened if school is open as normal.
The Nursery team would like to thank everyone for all the thoughtful presents and cards and wish you a very happy Christmas if you celebrate and a restful holiday to everyone.

In maths we have focussed on the number 0 and comparing amounts up to 5. The children showed a good understanding that 0 means nothing and did well when saying if a given number is more, less, or the same as another number.
This week we have started thinking about writing sentences. We have looked at the success criteria and followed instructions to write some sentences together. We have also looked at the letters ‘x’ and ‘y’.
Tricky word treasure hunt
The children had great fun hunting for the tricky words. They really impressed us with their reading skills.
A trip on a aeroplane
Inspired by one child who wanted to go on an aeroplane, we went on a trip to the USA. The children made passports and had lots of fun being checked into Flight RPK before watching a cockpit view of a plane taking off and landing. One little boy asked afterwards if we were really in America now.
We had a delivery of boxes which the children really enjoyed colouring, sticking and building with. Once we had completed a spectacular castle we transformed it into a bridge for the children to cross over the classroom before the troll came out! We discussed how to attach the materials to help it keep its shape.
Extra phonics activities
All Reception children have been practising their blending and segmenting skills on the screen with Miss Pinnock. They have worked really hard and are making great progress! You can continue to practise phonics at home using phonics play.

This week has been very busy in Nursery. The children have been doing lots of Christmas creative activities. There are lots of surprises in store for you so we are not showing any photos of those activities so we don’t spoil your enjoyment! Next week you will find out about all the things we have done! We hope you like everything! Please remember that next Wednesday is our Christmas party day and the children can dress in their party clothes or fancy dress. They will need to bring their own party food and you have already had a letter with suggestions for food. Please don’t forget we are a nut free and healthy school.
The children have continued to enjoy ‘writing’ this week and some have asked if they can practise letters from their names…
Other activities this week…
Here are some photos of other things the children have been doing this week including ‘Dough Disco’.
The children have been learning and using lots of new vocabulary. This week we have been using the word ‘cold’. Can you use this word with your child at home?
The children really enjoy taking part in the ‘Write dance’ activities. This week they have a new favourite…

This week in maths, we learned about 1 less and consolidated our learning of 1 less and 1 more of a given number up to 5. The children impressed us with how well they did. They especially liked singing 5 Little Speckled Frogs, 5 Little Monkeys, and 5 Currant Buns and showing 1 more and 1 less with their cubes.
This week we have looked at the tricky word ‘he’ and practised reading and writing the phonemes/letter shapes for ‘ss’ and ‘j’. The children are really impressing us with their blending skills.
Fun in the snow!
Megalodons and all things extinct!
One of our interests this week has been ‘Megalodons’. The children have enjoyed learning all about these extinct creatures. We then focused on the word ‘extinct’ and learned about different animals that are also extinct.
Visiting the conservation area
This week we have explored our amazing grounds even further. We spent some quality time in the conservation area. This is an amazing part of our school ground and we are incredibly lucky to have so many interesting parts to our school. The children really enjoyed exploring and being close to nature.
Please can any borrowed clothing be returned to school. We seem to have a lack of underwear at the moment! Thank you

The children are really enjoying our story this half term. ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ is full of repeated phrases for the children to join in with. This week they have enjoyed a yoga session based on the story. Here is the link if you want to have a go at home…
We always provide mark making resources in Nursery but this week we have enhanced our provision with whiteboards and pens as well as clipboards. The children have been having a go at writing their names. Please reinforce this at home by starting with the initial letter which needs to be in upper case. Once they have mastered this letter move on to the next one and so on. Remember that after the initial letter all the other letters need to be lower case. Have a look at how some of them got on…
Lots of children have enjoyed ‘reading’ books this week. They also enjoy listening to us reading stories and this can be supported at home. It’s great for their language development and imagination as well as having a lovely cosy time if you share a book at bedtime.
Christmas has arrived in Nursery!
The children have enjoyed putting up a Christmas tree and dressing up as the Nativity characters…
Lots of other things have been happening as well…
On Wednesday 15th December it is the Nursery Christmas party. You will have received a letter about it this week. Please remember when sending food for your child that we are a nut free and healthy food school.
Have a lovely weekend, from the Nursery team.
