This week has been a very varied week in Nursery. The children have been interested in lots of different things. Here are some of the things we have been doing:
Looking after poorly friends…
Enjoying playing football…
Joining in with ‘Write Dance’ moves…
Making healthy milkshakes…
Working on our fine motor skills…
We wonder what the children will be interested in next week?
Remember tomorrow is a training day. Have a good long weekend, from the Nursery team.

This week we have introduced two tricky words: we and she. The children enjoyed hunting for the words and sorting them. The phonemes we have looked at are: ng and ai. We have had lots of fun reading alien words and writing real words containing these phonemes.
Our maths focus this week has been on the numbers 6 and 7. We have enjoyed playing games, number hunts and formation. We have used lots of resources this week to support the children in showing the different ways of representing each number.
Some children enjoyed visiting our farm. They fed the chickens and went on a walk around the grounds looking at the different crops.
Homework this week is to look at the numbers 6 and 7. There are some suggestions in your home learning books and a few videos below to help. Feel free to share learning in the books or on tapestry.
Have a lovely weekend.

This week we have been very busy. At the end of last week we reorganised the Home Corner with the help of the children. The new layout is spacious and has proved very popular. There is a dining kitchen area, a living room and a baby’s room. The children have been role playing sitting at the table and eating a meal together. They set the table with place mats, plates, cups and a plant and chatted while they played. This role play area is beneficial in developing children’s speaking and listening skills as well as sparking their imagination.
The small construction area has also had a revamp. The children have been encouraged to write labels for their models if they want to display them.
One of our focus children this week was talking about ice so we filled different containers with water and added sparkly materials and put them in the freezer. All the children were excited when the ice was frozen and they enjoyed investigating it both inside and outside.
In maths we have been learning about the number 1. This week the children have been representing the number. They have written the number and drawn one object. Our ‘Disco Dough’ sessions have really helped with fine motor skills.
Tomorrow is Chinese New Year and in Nursery we have been talking about what the people who celebrate this festival do. We talked about different people celebrating different festivals and everyone in Nursery celebrating birthdays. The children had the opportunity to make cards and found out that red is an important colour to the Chinese people.
They also practised using chopsticks…
Have a lovely weekend from the Nursery team.

The children have learnt a new ‘tricky word’ this week. We have been looking at ‘was’. It was quite tricky at first but lots of children have started to recognise and write it.
The phonemes we have looked at are: ‘sh’ and ‘th’. Mr Thorne has some videos to help the children at home.
This week we have continued to practise our number bonds for 5. We have played lots of games and used lots of different manipulatives. We have also spent some time forming the numerals to 10.
Can we please remind parents that library books should be returned to school each Friday.
Have a lovely weekend.

On Wednesday this week we held our first ‘Stay and Read’ sessions at the beginning of both the morning and afternoon sessions. Several parents stayed to share a story with their child and everyone really enjoyed the experience. We will continue to hold these sessions every Wednesday so if you weren’t able to stay this week then please try to stay soon.
Lots of other things have been happening as well. Some children have been making models…
Others have been playing with friends or being busy by themselves…
We continue to do ‘Dough Disco’ with our children to develop their fine motor skills and the connections between their brains and their bodies. This week we have started ‘Write dance’ which develops gross motor skills and promotes core strength. Have a look on YouTube and have a go at home. The children have been doing ‘Banana Boogie’ and ‘Stuck in the Mud!’ Have fun!
Have a good weekend, from the Nursery team.

This week we have learnt the tricky word ‘he’. The children thought of some sentences including the tricky word, had to find it in some sentences and then practice forming the letters.
The children have been learning ‘qu’ and ‘ch’ this week. They have participated in oral activities and practised letter formation and writing sentences.
During maths we have been looking at the number 0. The children have discussed what zero means and practised representing the numeral.
The children have also been introduced to number bonds. This week we have focused on number bonds to 5. The children have experienced using 5 frames and part whole models to show the number bonds for 5.
A new planter!
We were very generously donated a potato platter by The Outdoor Classroom. The children have been learning about growing vegetables. We are looking forward to planting our potatoes once the weather warms up. As the potatoes grow so will the planter!
Eggs, ice and everything else!
Homework this week is to practise forming numbers to 20. The child may like to go on a hunt to find numbers in their environment and copy them or simply practise copying over the sheet provided.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend,
The Reception Team

Welcome back to a new term. The children have returned refreshed and ready to learn. They have settled back into our routines and are happy to see their friends again. This week has been very busy. Lots of the children wanted to use all the boxes and found materiels brought in after the Christmas break.
Some children were eager to play a maths counting game with the support of an adult…
Other children were just happy to be back playing and being with friends…
The children really enjoy playing in our areas of provision and like the reassurance of things being familiar. We do change role play areas and add resources to other areas. This half term we have set up a ‘Winter Wonderland’ which the children have enjoyed experiencing.
Part of our curriculum is developing speaking and listening skills. This also covers vocabulary development. The word we have chosen to work on is related to the time of year and our new role play area. Please try to use this word with your child at home and talk about what it means.
Don’t forget we are starting ‘Stay and Read’ next Wednesday. We hope lots of you are able to stay and share a book with your child.
Have a good weekend from the Nursery team.
