This week we have been making models and writing about them. We have also been working on addition and we have used Numicon to work out the totals of our number sentences.

We have had another good week in Nursery with lots of different things happening.
Some children have used a programme called Dazzle to make patterns on the whiteboard.
Our latest role play area is an office…
Some children wanted to go see the pigs…
And we went to visit the chickens…
The children had the opportunity to paint with cotton buds. This activity is excellent to develop their fine motor skills.
One child talked about making pizzas so she wrote a list of ingredients and her friends helped to make pizzas. Everyone enjoyed eating them…
Some other things this week…
Enjoy the weekend.

We have had a great week in RH. The children always seem so eager to learn and to challenge themselves; they are true Farfielders!
Understanding the World
The children were very excited to have PE outside this morning! We learnt all about jogging and warmed our bodies up by jogging around the school grounds. We then used the stopwatch in the school grounds to complete some fitness activities, including timing our running and counting how many star jumps we could do in 30 seconds. Some children found it a little tricky to jog/run for longer distances so we challenged the class to complete some running/exercises every lunchtime – they suggested running up and down the hill to the castle and doing press ups! We then practised our throwing and catching skills and had a play on the adventure area.
Around a third of the class didn’t have their PE kits today so some children found it tricky to complete the exercises in their school uniforms. Please can you make sure they have their PE kits every Friday. As the weather will be getting warmer (hopefully!), we will have PE outside more frequently so the children will need pumps/trainers in their PE bags

We have continued to revise the tricky phonemes: or, ar, oa, ee, oo.
The children have learnt the trigraph /ear/.
In maths, we have learnt about the numbers 16 and 17 and have also completed some addition work. The children have been showing representations of 16 and 17, including drawings, using equipment and writing the numbers. The children are really starting to understand that teen numbers are made up of a ‘ten’ and then a number of ‘ones’ and we have been practising putting the ten in our head and then counting on. They have also been using number lines to help find one more or one less than numbers.

What an enjoyable week we have had!
The children returned from the two week holiday refreshed and very keen to continue where they left off. They enjoyed seeing their friends again and quickly settled into the Nursery routine.
This week the children were given the opportunity to make Easter cards and nests. Some children chose to do some marbling for their cards and then cut out the shape of an egg to put on the front. They all practiced writing their names inside the card.
There was also an opportunity to make Easter nests. This was a very popular activity and almost every child was keen to participate. They helped to melt the chocolate, coat the crispies and spoon the mixture into cases. They were topped off with small chocolate eggs. Very popular!
Over the break we had a new adventure climbing frame installed. The children really enjoyed climbing and swinging and balancing. It is fantastic equipment to develop all sorts of skills particularly developing upper body strength.
The children also enjoyed some of the other areas of our grounds and the photos show how lucky we are to have this vast outdoor classroom.
Have a lovely long weekend and enjoy the good weather.

This week, we have revised the phonemes: oa, ar, or and oo. The children seem to be finding it quite difficult to remember these phonemes so if you could practise at home, that would be great.
A good game to play is ‘Picnic on Pluto’. The children have to sort words into real and pretend words. Click here for the link.
The children have also learnt the /ur/ phoneme this week.
In maths, the children have learnt about the numbers 15 and 16. We have looked at many different representations of 15 and 16 and have talked about making the numbers using Numicon, emphasising that it is a 10 and a 5 or 6. As well as this work, we have been practising ‘counting on’ from a number when adding. For example, when adding 10 and 5 Numicon pieces, starting at 10 and then adding 5 rather than counting all 10 dots.

Due to the Learning Logs only being handed back today, there was not enough turnover time for us to get them back to you this week. However, the children should’ve all received the following letter:
There will be no homework set this week in Learning Logs; however, we would like the children to complete some reading. This could be reading a reading book, reading in the environment, reading instructions or reading their own writing. Please can you upload a photograph or video to Tapestry of the children reading with a brief comment so we can share this with them next week. If you’re unsure how to upload to Tapestry, please send a video/picture to firstname.lastname@example.org for RH and email@example.com for RD.
Have a great long weekend and Happy Easter to those that celebrate.
