Happy New Year

We have had a great first week back and the children have settled back into routines well. It has been lovely to hear about all the lovely things the children have been doing and thank you to those families that have shared pictures via Tapestry – the children love discussing these!
The children really enjoyed the days that Mrs Daniels taught them this week and are looking forward to seeing her again next week.
Speaking & Listening and Vocabulary
We have completed lots of activities this week that came from ideas shared during the Training Day on Monday around developing children’s understanding and use of language. We have investigated what the word ‘enjoy’ means and have practised using this word in a sentence to talk about something we have enjoyed over their time off school over Christmas. The children then used these verbalised sentences to help write a sentence about the holidays in their Busy Bee books.
We have also played a new game this week. Some music is played and the children have to move around. When the music stops, the children find a partner to talk to about a given topic. We have encouraged the children to speak in full sentences, for example ‘I have played with ______ today’. The game encouraged the children to talk to different people, not just their best friends.
Maths and Literacy
We have been working on ordering numbers 1-10, including ordering numbers to 10 that aren’t in sequence. An example of this could be: 2, 5, 8, 9.
The children have also practised spelling their key words correctly. This week we have practised: I, to, the, no go.
The children have had fun playing in the new areas of the classroom. They have also each been allocated an ‘expert area’ in the classroom which is an area of the classroom that they play in a lot. The children are in charge of tidying these ‘expert areas’ – it has had a very positive impact on tidy up times!
Have a good weekend!
