The last week of term!
This week we had our Christmas party on Wednesday. The children came in their best clothes and were very excited. During the session they made their party hats and then played games and danced to Christmas songs.
Then we played Pass The Parcel…
Next it was time for party food…
The children had a lovely time and were given a present to take home.
Today is the last day so we hope everyone has a lovely holiday. Please remember that Monday 7th January is a Training Day so we are back on Tuesday 8th January 2019.
We seem to have lost one of our Nursery cameras so please can you just check to see if you have forgotten to return it.
Have a lovely holiday from the Nursery team.

The children have made it to the end of term! They have had a great week doing lots of Christmas themed activities. They watched the dress rehearsal of the Key Stage 1 concert, listened to the Christmas story and sequenced the pictures, ordered baubles to 10, enjoyed a Christmas party, Christmas dot to dots, made our calendars and visited Santa at Abbey House museum!
We played the chocolate game where you had to roll a 6 and dress up before attempting to cut chocolate, musical statues, musical bumps, Christmas corners, pass the parcel. We then enjoyed some party food and finished with a visit from Santa.
The rest of the week…

The children had a wonderful time at Abbey house this morning. They enjoyed making Christmas tree hats, dressing up and seeing the man in red (who apparently chatted a lot!)
Thank you again to the volunteers who came, we couldn’t do it without you.

This week has again been a busy week in Nursery!
We have been preparing for Christmas by making cards. The children decided what they wanted on their cards, chose shapes and colours and used their cutting skills. Then they wrote their names inside. They are all proud of what they have made and hope you like the final products.
On Wednesday it was Christmas dinner day. The children practised cutting their food and everyone enjoyed wearing their hats.
Our amazing Christmas Nativity performances on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. We are all very proud of each and every child who got on to the stage and performed in front of all those people. Well done everyone!
Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget our party next Wednesday.

Christmas has been all around us this week with our Christmas performances and Christmas dinner on Wednesday.
Well done to all the children for their fantastic singing and efforts in the performance.
Please click here for information around the children’s learning this week.
The children have been very interested in writing stories this week. We have been very impressed with their story telling and writing skills.
What else has been happening?
It is ‘party day’ on Wednesday so the children can come to school in their own clothes/party outfits. The children will receive a letter today asking for a small donation of food or drink for Wednesday.
On Thursday we are going to Abbey House Museum. Please return your permission slip and payment if you haven’t already.
On Fridays, the children can swap their library book for a new one. Last week, we only had eight children with books returned. Please can you ensure the children’s library books are in their Book Bags on Fridays so they can choose a new one. The children love visiting the school library.
Have a great weekend. I wonder if we’ll see some snow?…

RK have had a very busy week with 2 Christmas concerts and learning about patterns and the phonemes x and y.
We have had a lot of fun using shapes and Christmas objects to make repeating patterns with. The children are good at repeating a pattern using 2 shapes/pictures, if we continue the patterns below it is a little trickier:
The children have chosen to create their own patterns using compare bears and complete patterns on the computer.
They have worked as a team to create their own repeating pattern Christmas paper!
We have learnt the phonemes x and y and the children are excited to learn they have nearly done the whole alphabet! Although there are a lot, more sounds to learn! They have been trying to sound out and spell some CVC words like mix, fix, six, yes, yet. They are working hard on remembering how to form the phoneme they can hear.
On Wednesday, the children enjoyed a superb Christmas lunch prepared by Claire and her team. The children had all the trimmings including hats!
The rest of the week in pictures….
We are so proud of the children’s performance in their Christmas concerts. They did a super job singing and remembering their lines. Next week they have a fun filled week – party day and the trip to Abbey House Museum.
Have a lovely weekend. Wrap up warm, it’s nearly the end of term!

This week in phonics we have learnt the phonemes x and y. The children have been sounding out and blending CVC words containing those phonemes like yet, mix, six, yes. They have also tried sounding them out to spell the words.
In maths we revised our knowledge of 2D shapes and then learnt all about pattern. We started by looking at 2 shapes and how they repeated.
We then went on to look at patterns we might see all around us.
The children particularly enjoyed matching up Christmas wrapping paper to continue a pattern and then creating their own wrapping paper!!

We’ve had a great week in RH and have been keeping busy doing all sorts of things. We’ve practised the Christmas performance, learnt about 2D shapes and have learnt the phoneme /v/ and /w/. We have also been learning about what makes a good friend and how taking turns and sharing makes us kind friends.
Click here for more details about what learning has taken place this week.
What else have we been up to?
Making 2D shapes with string and working as a team:
Making Mug Cakes:
We have a ‘mug cake’ recipe book in the home corner. The children were looking through the recipe book and found some cakes they wanted to make. The children made a mug cake each and then ate them!
Have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.

This week we have been very busy getting ready for our Nativity performances next week. We will be performing on Tuesday morning at 9.30am and Thursday afternoon at 2pm. You should have received a letter telling you where your child will be sitting for the performance and other information about Christmas arrangements in Nursery including the party which is on Wednesday 19th December.
This week we put out a basket of coloured links and the children have been very keen to join them together to make a variety of things. Some children made pirate belts and others made necklaces. This resource gave us a very good opportunity to develop different aspects of Maths. We worked on patterns using only two colours in our chains. We made long and short chains and talked about who’s was the longest and shortest. We estimated how many links would be needed to make a necklace and if the number was not right would we need more or less. The children were also supported to make links to match numbers on the number line. This resources is also excellent for developing fine motor skills.
During our library times this week we have been encouraging the children to look carefully for a book they wanted to take home and not just to pick up the nearest one. They looked through the books before their final choice was made and were supported to turn the pages carefully. Then they were encouraged to put the book into their book bags by themselves to promote independence.
Other things this week…
Don’t forget our two Nativity performances next week and have a lovely weekend.
