A super exciting week in RK!

Thursday 11th October | 5 comments

What a super fun week we have had in RK this week! The children are really trying their best and working so hard learning letter sounds, tricky words and numbers. As well as remembering to share, listen, put their hands up, pleases and thank you’s.

This week we have revised the phonemes – s, a, t, i, p, n. They have been introduced to our new phonemes – m, d, g. The children have sorted objects for all the phonemes and practised forming the letters. We are practising sounding out and blending CVC words.

Our tricky word of the week was ‘to’. The children thought of sentences with the word ‘to’ in and tried to spell the word.

Phonics Workshop

Do not forget our phonic workshop is on Thursday 18th October. We are running 2 sessions for this one at 2.30pm and at 6.45pm. This is will give you the opportunity to find out how we teach phonics and how this links in to reading.

This week we have focused on revising the numbers from 1-4 and introduced the number 5. We challenge the children to show us different ways they can show us numbers, what number comes before___, what number comes after.

Today we have introduced the children to a tens frame. The children will put objects in the frame and count how many they have. They then match this to the correct Numicon piece.

School trip

We had a super trip to Leeds City Library. The children wrote their own train tickets and particularly enjoyed going on the train. I hear the best bit was having a biscuit on the train on the way back! They all did super well walking such a long way and listening to adults. We were so proud of them. A huge thank you to our parent volunteers.

The children have been enjoying listening to a number of stories by the author Nick Sharratt. We think the favourite one is ‘Mixed up Fairy Tales’.

You will have received and sent back you permission letters for Tapestry. You will have been sent an activation email. This gives you access to your child’s Tapestry observations. If you have not sent in your permission slip then please do as soon as possible. Please check your junk mail folders for the activation email. If you have any questions or are unsure about Tapestry then please ask a member of the RK team.

The rest of our week in photos…

Have a wonderful weekend

The first thing Cate told me about the trip was getting a biscuit on the way back! I’m really glad they were well behaved on the train/trip, it’s good to know they have other travel options if mini buses are busy or whatever.

    Busy week! Well done all
