We’re at the end of another busy week and the weeks seem to be going so fast. We have now started maths and phonics sessions every day.
We have been learning about the numbers 1 and 2 this week. We have spent a long time looking at the numbers to ensure that the children fully understand the value of the numbers as well as how the numbers can be represented.
Finding one object:
Different ways to see the number:
At school, we form the number one as a straight line down.
We have learnt the phonemes /s/, /a/ and /t/ this week. We have looked at how the letters are formed, what words begin with the letters and we have tasted some food beginning with the letters. We’ve had strawberries, apples and tomatoes. We use precursive font in school and the children have practised the precursive /s/, /a/ and /t/ this week.
We have also read lots of books with characters whose names begin with /s/, /a/, /t/.
What else have we been doing?
The children have all chosen a book from the school library today. Please share these books with the children and read them together. The children’s library books will be changed on Fridays so please make sure they have their previous library book in their book bag to swap.
The children should have come home with a Communication Book today. These books will be sent home every Friday with a task for the children to complete over the course of the week with the support of family at home. The children can complete the tasks in any way they wish – even a noted down conversation will suffice. Please put the books in the labelled box in the cloakroom every Thursday so they can be marked and returned to you on Fridays.
RH are going on a school trip on Monday afternoon to Leeds City Library and we’re going on the train. On our return journey, our train arrives back at New Pudsey at 3:20 so we should be back at school around 3:30-3:40. Please come into school through the front entrance and wait in the hall. Children will be dismissed from the classroom as soon as we arrive back.
As part of our learning this week, we have learnt about train safety and how we should behave at the train stations/on the train on Monday. The children seemed very excited!
We hope that you have a lovely weekend – fingers crossed the weather stays nice.

Another week has flown passed in RK class. The children are doing so well and this week saw the start of us teaching letter sounds and numbers.
In phonics we have learnt the phonemes (letter sounds) s, a, t. the children have identified objects which start with these sounds and have practised forming the letters using a cursive script s, a, t. We have also practised blending the phonemes together to make words such as: at, sat, as. The short Jolly Phonic clips below will help your child remember the phoneme…
In maths, we have been practising counting up to 20 and back from 20/10. We have also worked hard on counting objects, which cannot be moved such as claps or the beat of a drum. This is trickier than it sounds! The children have then focused on learning the number 1 and 2 and were introduced to the Numberblocks.
The children showed us different ways to show us the number 1 and 2. For example one jump, 2 eyes, one car, two dots, one nose. We are hoping that the children are really grasping the variety of ways in which we can see the numbers 1 and 2.
As for the rest of the week it involved identifying bugs, creating leaf pictures, learning football skills, making models, drawing, writing stories and acting them out and playing with friends.
Have a super weekend

The Nursery children have really settled in well and are having lots of fun both inside and in our outdoor provision. This week children were playing with fruit in the Home Corner so we talked about eating apples and fruit being a healthy option. Some children went to our orchard to collect apples.
All the children have enjoyed playing outside this week. Here are some of the things they have been doing.
The children have also been busy inside too.
Some children were keen to be pirates!
Don’t forget we have started Library lending on Wednesdays. If your child does not come on Wednesday please bring the book bag in on another suitable day.
Have a good weekend from the Nursery team.

We have had a really busy week in Reception. The children are enjoying school and are doing really well remembering their morning routines. Please can we ask that all book bags go in the box in the classroom in RK and in the children’s trays in RH.
The children have had lots of fun this week. Some have visited the farm, many children have played outside and some have enjoyed making a fire engine and pirate ship. The children have also made lots of pirate equipment including maps, eye patches and hats.
We have been practising some of our rhyming, alliteration, sounding out and blending skills. We have made rhyming soup using 2 objects that rhyme like ‘box and fox’.
We have been counting forwards to 20 and backwards from 10 to 0. We have counted objects and identified amounts and numbers to 5. We have also looked at an amount of objects and what ‘the same’ means.
We are doing well eating our lunches and trying new foods to see if we like them. When prompted, we are remembering to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. Please can the children have time to practise using a knife and fork and cutting their food.
We super PE sessions this morning. The children are doing so well remembering how to find a space on their own and listening to instructions. Please can you make sure your child has their PE kit on their peg on a Friday. PE kits can stay on the children’s pegs – they don’t need to go home every Friday.
School trip – Leeds City Library
We hope that you have all received a letter regarding the trip to Leeds Library. RH are going on Monday 1st October and RK are going on Tuesday 6th October. We welcome any adult helpers. If you have not received a letter, please let us know.
In addition to observing the children, we also choose three children to observe in greater depth who are our ‘focus children’. When it is your child’s turn, they will get a bag with a camera and piece of paper in. The camera is to take pictures of what happens over the weekend. On the piece of paper, you have the opportunity to tell us what your child loves to do or about any special occasions that might be happening. There is also a section for any questions you may have about your child’s progress or how they’re doing in general.
Have a super weekend

Welcome to the Nursery blog!
Each week there will be a blog about things the children have been doing during the week and information for you. All the children have started now and have settled really well. They are exploring all the areas of provision and getting to know our routines.
There are a few things they need to do when they come into Nursery at the beginning of the session. The children need to hang their coats on their pegs with support if necessary. Then find their name card and take it to the table to practise writing the first letter of their name. They may need support to begin with and when they have mastered the first letter they can move on to the next letter and so on.
Please remember to send one piece of fruit each week in to Nursery and put it on the snack table. This is fruit which may be shared with other children. If you send grapes in please cut them in half length ways to ensure they are not a chocking hazard.
Next Wednesday 26th September we will be starting library. Every Wednesday your child will be encouraged to choose a book for you to share at home. You need to return this book the following week when another one can be chosen. If your child does not attend Nursery on Wednesday then please bring your books back on a more convenient day. Your child will only need their book bag on the day they change their library book. A letter will be sent out with further information this week.
Please remember to send your child in a coat every day as the weather is often unpredictable and we play out in all weathers. They are lots of coats the same and we don’t always know which coat belongs to which child so please clearly label them with the child’s first and surname.
Please speak to any member of the Nursery team if you have any questions or concerns.
From the Nursery team.

The children in Reception have had their first PE lesson today. They had to get changed into their PE kits and they went into the hall for the lesson.
They experimented with movement, practised getting into a space and running around safely. They also played a game called ‘dishes and domes’ – one team had to put the cones upside down whilst the other team put the cones the correct way up.
We’ve had lots of fun.
Just a quick reminder, please can you ensure that the children’s clothes are labelled with their names. Cardigans and jumpers do go missing and it’s a lot easier to find them if they have a name in.
We hope you have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.

We now have a full class in RH and the children have been enjoying getting to know each other, getting to know the staff and have been exploring the classroom.
Every morning, the children have a number of jobs to complete as part of their learning. The jobs are:
-Put their fruit and book bags in their trays
-Answer the ‘Question of the Day’ by putting their name in the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ box
-Write their name on a laminated piece of card and stick it on the ten frame on the wall titled ‘Who is here today?’
Pictures of our first week in Reception:
The children have been enjoying school lunches and have been trying new foods:
This week we have been following the ‘week one’ menu so next week is ‘week 2’.
Have a great week.

The children have had a super start to their time in RK class. They are remembering the 3 tasks they do in a morning – writing names on fruit, answering the question of the day and putting their name card in the box. They have been busy exploring all the areas inside our classroom and outside. Here a just a selection of what they have been doing…
We are proud of how the children are getting on at lunchtime. They are trying new food, using a knife and fork together, emptying their plates and working hard to remember their manners. They then play outside with lots of other children. School lunch menus are displayed in the cloakroom; we are currently on ‘Week 1’. You can also find the menus on our school website.
Here are a few pictures of the children enjoying lunch…
The children will be given a few letters this week informing you of when PE will start, library etc…
Have a lovely week
