Minibeasts galore!

What a fun playing and learning week we have had. We have learnt about Eid, bees, ladybirds, letter sounds, problem solving, zipping jackets up, exploding coca cola!

We have been finding out all about Eid and it means to our friends. The children have the opportunity to make their own Eid cards for their family. Some children then went on to make Eid biscuits, this involved a quick trip to the Co-op for some sprinkles and lots of counting to make sure there were enough for everyone. The left over biscuits were shared between the bakers!

We have also been learning about minibeasts. It started with someone saying “I want to make a house for a bee” and this lead to a discussion about bees and we decided to make a sugary syrup to help tired bees. Then low and behold we found a tired bee on the new bug hotel. The children dropped some syrup next to it and they were so happy to find that the bee had flown away!

We were also excited to welcome our ladybird larvae to our classroom! We found out we need to use our magnifying glasses to find them as they are tiny. We looked at the life cycle of a ladybird and this led to some children making their own ladybird. We hope to see them change over the next few weeks.

In phonics we have revised the phonemes s, a, t, i, p, m, n and learnt ‘d’. The children are doing so well thinking of words which start with d and have a d in them. Their segmenting and blending is going from strength to strength.

In maths we had problems to solve – Gerry Giraffe brought grapes for his snack and Chloe cat and Daffy dog didn’t have anything, what could we do? The children instantly said “Share them!” We talked about sharing fairly and then cutting in halves. Luckily everyone managed to share the grapes!

The rest of the week has been busy playing with friends and learning to be more independent…

We would like to wish all the Dads and Grandads a happy Father’s Day and our Muslim families a fantastic Eid!

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

I love that you can just nip out to the Co Op for sprinkles – it’s like being at home! We have a bee brick at home but no bees yet – might have to get Cate to mix up a sugary syrup to see if it will entice them in 😉

    Looks like brilliant fun!
Micah loved the baking and proudly shared out his moon and stars biscuits.

Leah told me that she was counting the grapes for the dog and that he had 3!
