The sun has got his hat on!

Thursday 19th April | 7 comments

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely 2 weeks, what a great start to the term – sunshine!

As the weather is getting warmer (at the moment) please can you make sure your child comes to school with sun cream on (spare in a bag) and a named hat. We will support the children putting sun cream on.

As you can imagine the children are embracing the sunshine and spending a lot of time exploring outside. A few children went to the pond with Mrs Myers to see if they could find some frog spawn. They did find lots of tadpoles, the children are observing them using magnifying glasses and finding out about frogs using some non-fiction books.

We are looking to make our outdoor area more colourful and we would welcome any flower pots you no longer use, plants, flowers or seeds.

We continue to enjoy the sunshine by making ice lollies. The children selected the flavour of juice they wanted. We learnt that to make ice lollies they need to go somewhere very cold like a freezer. We will enjoy the ice lollies after we have visited the park next to school later!

In phonics we have started to learn some letter sounds. This week we are learning the phoneme ‘s’. We know it makes a long sound and sausages, socks, seaweed and slide are some of the words which start with ‘s’.

In mathematics we have revised everything we know about the numbers 1-5. We have clapped, jumped and recorded the numbers to 5. We are recognising the Numicon pieces by looking at their shape and counting the holes. Some children have been busy creating their own shape pictures, learning the names, how many sides and corners they have.

St George’s Day

The children have been finding about why we celebrate St George’s Day. They listened to a story and then we learnt about St George’s Day parades. We talked about the yellow signs outside of school as the road will be closed on Sunday for a parade.

Farsley library

We have rearranged our trip to Farsley library and we will now be going on 2 visits. Some children will go on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th May and some will go on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th May. Letters will go out next week; we will need volunteers too!

Fun playing…

Have a great week, fingers crossed the sun continues to shine!
