We can’t believe we are at the end of another half term! The children have been learning so much since returning in January. We think they are probably ready for a well-earned rest!

As part of our Literacy learning the children have been helping adults to read the story ‘The 3 Billy Goats Gruff’. We discussed the characters in the story, where the story is set and how the characters feel throughout the story. They particularly enjoyed speaking like a cross troll “Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?” The children realised that there are different versions of the same story too. Perhaps when you next read a book with your child you could discuss the characters and where the story is set?

We have been practising our blending of simple CVC words by saying the rhyme:

‘Jack and Jill went walking, chattering and talking up the hill, down a hill, happily. They got to the top and decided to stop and Jack said “Jill what can you see?”

“I spy something with the sounds c-u-p”.

The children then have to work out what word it makes p-i-g = pig. It is a difficult skill to develop but important early reading skills.

In Mathematics we have been counting up to 20 and back from 10 and 5 to 0. We have also practised making marks to represent numbers and forming some numbers. We sang the songs ‘7 green bottles’ and ‘5 men in a flying saucer’ and worked out how many were left.

We have also had fun baking, making potion bottles using water, oil and glitter, play dough, fruit smoothies and having fun with our friends.

We wish you all a lovely week off and we look forward to seeing you all in a week!
