We have raised a grand total of £94.87 for Oxfam!! A massive thank you to everyone who has contributed. Musa is very proud of his work and he is very grateful to all his friends and their families who have helped make today happen. The money will be going to Oxfam in the new year.
Merry Christmas to everyone and a Happy New Year. Don’t forget, school is open for children on Wednesday 3rd January.

What a busy and fun filled week we have had in RF!
Last week the children presented the Nativity and each child had a very important part to play.
The children started this week by making Christmas cards and calendars. Some of them were very enthusiastic with their use of glitter as you will see when they bring their cards home. The calendars are very individual and each child has designed and drawn their own.
On Wednesday we had our trip to Abbey House Museum to take part in the Christmas workshop. The children had great fun dressing up in various outfits related to father Christmas. Then they had some time doing a craft activity which they all enjoyed. Finally, all the children went to see Father Christmas and received a present.
Thursday was Christmas party day! The children came dressed in party clothes and were very excited from the start.
We played games throughout the day including Pass the Parcel and Musical Statues. Unfortunately, we didn’t get time to play Sleeping Logs!
The final treat of the day was when we had an unexpected visit from Father Christmas.
Thank you for all the thoughtful presents.
Have a lovely Christmas and a restful two weeks off.
From all the staff in RF.

The last week of term has certainly been a super busy one. At the beginning of the week we enjoyed having a little snow outside so we got the sledges out and had a lot of fun! It was also the opportunity to throw snow at Mrs Kumar!
The children were shown how to use a mirror to draw a self-portrait of themselves. We talked about the features we have on our faces. For the children that chose to draw their self portraits we turned these pictures in to beautiful calendars.
Some children chose to bake this week, we hope more will in the New Year. The story of the 10 Little Elves was enjoyed. We have talked a lot this week about saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. The children are trying really hard to say ‘I would like…’ rather than ‘I want…’.
We are sending another ‘holiday task’ through Tapestry today, so please have a read – tell us what you have been doing in your 2 weeks off school.
Thank for so much for the gifts you have sent us. We wish you a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New Year.
The Nursery team.

We certainly haven’t had a quiet last week of term in RH. We have watched KS1’s Christmas production, made cards and calendars, been to visit Santa at Abbey House Museum and we’ve been busy organising a Charity Day which will be on Friday.
Musa in RH decided he wanted to raise money for a charity in Africa to help people who may not have enough food and water over Christmas. The children have decided to raise money for Oxfam. As a class, we have discussed why we raise money and have looked at the Oxfam website. We have looked at where Africa is and discussed that it is a very hot country with a large desert.
Musa has enjoyed planning the Charity Day with the help of his friends. This is what they have been up to….
The children decided that they wanted to make biscuits and have face paints. Musa also wanted to make a ‘music book’ so we have made a book containing songs from our Christmas play. Face painting will take place on Friday at 50p per child. The ‘music books’ will also be sold at 50p per book.
Envelopes have been handed out to every child for voluntary contributions to go in alongside a letter that explains our activities. The envelope has a form stuck to the front for you to tick if your child wants face paint/a ‘music book’. We do require permission for face painting so we need a ticked envelope for this activity.

Making biscuits for our sale on Friday at 3pm (outside the classroom or inside if it’s too cold!):

The ‘music book’:
The money raised will be collected and counted on Friday and we will reveal the grand total during the first week back after the holidays.
We had a great day at Abbey House Museum today. The children have taken part in craft activities, dressing up and received a present from Santa!
We have covered the phonemes /j/, /v/, /w/, /x/ over the last two weeks. We have practised recognising the phonemes, reading and writing them. This week we also revised all the tricky words we have learnt this term.
Tricky words learnt so far: I, to, the, no, go, into, he, she, me.
We have been working on and ordering numbers to 20 and continuing to work out one more and one less.
Don’t forget tomorrow is Party Day. Children can come to school in their party clothes.

We have been extremely busy in Nursery this week. As well as performing our concert ‘The Super Star’ we have been creating Christmas cards. The children had lots of resources to use for their cards. They selected what they wanted, some of which involved cutting Christmas objects out, some printing and of course glitter!! All the children were encouraged to do some writing which mainly involved writing their name.
Some of the children enjoyed a wonderful Christmas lunch. We had turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, vegetables and party hats. The number of children that ate sprouts was fantastic!! We enjoyed listening to Christmas music as we ate!
We have listened to lots of stories this week but a favourite has been ‘Father Christmas needs a wee’. It is a lovely rhyming book which involves a lot of counting!
Next Wednesday is our party day so feel free to bring the contributions circled on the letters sent out last week. If you are unsure then please ask.
Have a lovely, warm weekend.

The children in Foundation Stage did a super job performing their Christmas concert to lots of grown ups. They sang their hearts out and remembered all their lines. Here are a selection of photos taken from one of the concerts…

Christmas has arrived in RF.
One of our focus children came to school on Monday very excited about Christmas and talking about her Christmas tree. She asked if we were going to have one in class. Mrs Longhorn knew exactly where the tree and decorations were kept so the children helped her to get everything out and set it up. They did such a good job that Mrs Myers took some of the children to help her set up the tree in the school entrance. Is your tree up yet?
The next day some of our children crowded themselves into the Home Corner and set up a band! They used whatever they had available to make instruments and had great fun. The following day they asked if they could have some instruments so we went to collect a variety as well as some equipment to dance with. We searched for music on the internet and the children danced and played along. Today in PE the children were still interested in music and dancing so we had instruments and ribbons out again and used all the space in the hall. We finished our session with some very relaxing music!
Have a good weekend from all the staff in RF.

It has been a chilly end to the week today. The children have loved finding ice and seeing the snow start falling on Thursday afternoon.
The children have all been busy practicing the songs for our Christmas concert, in particular the song they will perform on the stage ‘Twinkle, twinkle bright new star’. We have all tried our costumes on and sang our song on the stage. The children are super excited performing their song next week. In case you are not sure our concerts are on:
Tuesday 5th December at 9.30am & Thursday 7th December at 2pm
We have been working on developing the children’s physical skills through rolling out play dough and making marks to experimenting with drawing round stencils.
We were very lucky to have a parent donate a wooden dolls house to us. The children are really enjoying developing their imaginative skills by thinking of their own stories. Thank you so much to the Chaudhari family. We are also starting to encourage the children to join in when we are telling a well-known story. Can they fill in the missing words? This week we read ‘The Gruffalo’.
As today is the 1st December the children have been enjoying decorating our Christmas tree and reading some Christmas books. In preparation of our concert the children have been listening to the story of Christmas so they understand how important Christmas Day is. If you’d like to see the short video then copy and paste this link in to your browser – https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories/lets-celebrate-christmas-story?collection=christmas
Thank you to everyone who sent photos of their child’s weekend. We have almost talked to every child about their weekend and it has been lovely hearing about everything they do at home. Please feel free to send us more!
Wrap up this weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Our learning this week…
The children have been so interested in melting the ice outside, they decided to conduct an ice experiment with Mrs Myers. The children came up with some ideas about how to melt ice and then discussed how to make it a ‘fair test’ by ensuring each cup had the same amount of water in before they went into the freezer. We are going to complete the experiment this week so watch this space…
The children have been reading real and psuedo CVC words this week, for example ‘fog’, ‘hib’, ‘mon’, ‘ham’. They have played a game called Buried Treasure which is an online phonics game. Click here for the link to play.
We have also been writing simple sentences this week. The writing is very guided at this stage, getting the children used to writing more than one word and leaving finger spaces between words. The children have practised writing ‘I am a ____’ and then have added in different CVC words like ‘cat’ and ‘dog’. I am very impressed with how well the children’s cursive letter formation is coming along.
We read a story at the beginning of the week that contained the days of the week and we realised that we needed to practise them. This week we have talked about what we do on different days of the week and have ordered them. We then looked at the months of the year which also lead to talking about Advent in the lead up to Christmas. We have also continued to practise one more and one less. A couple of catchy songs that we’ve used to help our learning:
