Terrific Tapestry Tutorial
We would like to invite you to our launch of ‘Tapestry’. We are offering a short session to help your understanding of how Tapestry can work for you and your child. We will show you how to log in to Tapestry, respond to an observation, create and send your own. We can’t emphasise enough what a great learning tool Tapestry is: it helps us to get to know your child and you get to see what they do at school and how they are developing.

The following dates are available for you to discover how terrific Tapestry is:

Monday 6th November – 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Wednesday 8th November – 9am and 10.30am
Friday 10th November – 1pm and 2.30pm

We would like to see as many parents as possible attending. If any of the above dates or times don’t work for you then please let us know and we would be happy to arrange more.

A busy last week in Nursery…

October 19, 2017 at 4:16 pm

This week has been a busy last week of term. The children all had their school photos taken on their own and with siblings. During story time we have been learning all about the Hindu festival – Diwali. The children listened to the story of Rama and Sita. We know it is the called the festival of light. To listen to the story please copy the link below in to your internet browser…

Training Day
Don’t forget tomorrow is a training day so school is closed.

Tapestry accounts should be active now. Please make sure you sign up for a ‘Tapestry Tutorial’ to help support you using it effectively. The sessions will past about 30 minutes.

Spare Clothes
If you have any spare clothes – trousers, leggings, pants, socks and tops we would love to have them in Nursery. Ideally if your child has spare clothes on their peg this does help of they get wet!

Our week…

We have been busy learning about the number 1 and singing counting songs. In phonics we have been listening to environmental sounds and using instruments to tap out words using syllables, for example tri-angle. The children also played their instruments according to whether the quiet or loud puppet was shown.

We would like to wish our Hindu families a ‘Happy Diwali’. Have a great week off school and we look forward to seeing you back to school on Monday 30th October.

Robots in RH

October 16, 2017 at 5:16 pm

One of our focus children last week loved Robots! We watched this video of Nao…

The children described how robots move. They discussed how robots might talk and we tried to sound out and blend CVC words like a robot. For example, cat, mat, pin, got.

We talked about how robots work and lots of children had a go at making some of their own robots.

What else have we been doing?

The children have been learning about what a Gudwara is and have discussed different places of worship. One of our focus children had been to a Gudwara and had been eating Prashad. Mrs Kaur very kindly got us some Prashad to taste.

and there’s more….

Trip to the Woods

On Thursday, both Reception classes are going on a school trip to  Blackhills Campsite. The children were asked what they wanted to do in the woods and came up with all sorts of ideas. We have tried to include all the children’s ideas for the trip. The main activities will be:

-making a den for their own teddy bears;

-decorating bear biscuits;

-going on a bear hunt;

-having a teddy bear’s picnic and

-singing songs around a bonfire with marshmallows.

The children will need to bring a teddy bear in from home to take with them. They can come to school in their own clothes (suitable for being outdoors all day) and must bring a packed lunch.

The children are mastering the numbers 17, 18 and 19.

Tricky words

The children have previously learnt ‘I’, ‘to’ and ‘the’. This week’s word  is ‘no’.

This week’s phonemes are:

This week in RF

October 13, 2017 at 3:42 pm

Another very busy week!

Our focus children this week have generated lots of exciting activities for all the class to share. One of out children had done some bead threading at home so wanted to do some at school as well. We found some wooden vegetables to thread and then tried to make some repeating patterns with them. We talked about the patterns and wondered if we could make patterns with real vegetables. This led to a visit to the farm and the harvesting of some interesting vegetables. All the children took part in making repeating patterns with the homegrown vegetables.

Another child was very interested in washing cars and as you can see in the photos one brave member of staff let them loose on her car!

Some children have also had the opportunity to bake this week. This seems to be a favourite with everyone in RF.

Please check your child’s book bag for letters about Tapestry and parents evenings and don’t forget it is school individual photographs next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins!

October 13, 2017 at 1:17 pm

In Nursery this week the children have been fascinated by ‘pumpkins’. On our funky finger table we had 2 small pumpkins that the children were encouraged to hammer golf tees in to using hammers. This sort of activity helps children build their upper arm strength which in turn will help them hold a pencil using a pincer grip.
Max wondered what it looked like inside, only one way to find out – open it! We all agreed that it had a funny smell and was very slimy. We then went on to find out that you can eat pumpkin – cue to find what we could make!

So the next day we made some ‘Pumpkin passion cupcakes’. We all tried some and thought they were yummy. Mrs Kumar then had a great idea – how about we make lots more buns and sell them at the Harvest Festival on Friday! “Yes” the children said. We decided it would be a good idea to make posters and say how much each bun will cost. The production day was Thursday and the children worked really hard. Some children did some signs and they decided we should sell the buns for 30p. Mrs Myers and a small group sold lots of buns to parents and to staff as well and raised almost £14! The next job is to work out what to spend the money on!

Other news
As well as pumpkins we have been doing so much more…

Individual and sibling photos
On Wednesday Nursery children will have their individual and sibling photos taken. If Wednesday is a day your child isn’t in school then please still come for a photo. You are welcome to come first thing in the morning or after 12.30. Please don’t come later than 2pm.

Thank you to everyone who returned their Tapestry permission slip. We are pleased to say that we have started to post lots of observations out. It is important to know we have completed these observations over a number of weeks so you shouldn’t expect such a large number each week!
We are also sending letters out this week inviting you to find out more about Tapestry. Most parents should have received a user name and password this week. If you have any problem logging in on then please let me or Mrs Hawkhead know – [email protected] or [email protected]

We have seen that some sunshine is forecast this weekend – enjoy!

A trip to Canada in RH

October 6, 2017 at 3:35 pm

We have had an extremely busy week this week in RH.

We have been:

  • creating and following treasure maps to fine golden coins;
  • visiting the farm classroom and learning about plants;
  • planting cress seeds and watching them grow;
  • learning about cricket in PE and
  • we’ve been to visit Canada!

Shailen had been to Canada so we used a map to find Canada and talked about how he got there. He told the class all about Niagra Falls and said that he’d had pancakes for breakfast. He asked if we could go to Canada so we said we could pretend!

The children made passports and were given a ticket with a letter and number written on. They had to find their seat by reading the letters and numbers on the ticket. The children flew to Canada on an aeroplane flown by Pilot Hutchinson and Pilot Gregory. On arrival in Canada, the children were treated to a pancake with Canadian maple syrup made by Chef Puddiphatt. We then flew back to school.

A busy week in RF

October 6, 2017 at 3:19 pm

This week has been very busy in RF!

One of our focus children was very interested in baking and the story of The Gingerbread Man so we combined these interests and the result was lovely gingerbread men biscuits. Some children joined in with this and read the story, made shopping lists, collected the ingredients and made the biscuits.

Another child liked shopping so we set up our own shop. The children found trolleys and tills and decided what to sell. Lots of the children joined in to write price tags for the goods on sale.

We have also been finding out about the numbers 9, 10, 11 and 12. We talked about each number and which number comes before and after it. Then we put the numbers in order. Some children practised writing the numbers in the sand and we also had shaving foam out for the children to practise writing the phonemes of the week and our tricky word.

Finally some children are very interested in working on the computer so we showed them how to draw a picture using the Dazzle programme.

Enjoy our pictures of  our busy week!
