Thank you for all the effort that was put into the children’s Communication books over the holidays. It was lovely to see what the children have been busy doing over the holidays and they have been desperate to show us their work.
The children have been very excited about our new arrivals. It has sparked lots of conversations about animals that lay eggs and how to look after eggs. The children have been very eager to stroke, hold and feed the ducklings. We will be looking at the life cycle of a duck and what we need to do to look after our ducklings.
This week the children are learning the phonemes /ea/ and /oy/. We will discuss with the children that they have already learnt the phonemes /ee/ and /oi/ but that /ea/ and /oy/ present alternative phonemes with the same sound.
This week we are looking at fractions. We have been discussing what a whole is, a half and a quarter. The children have all made themselves a piece of toast and have practised cutting their piece of toast into half and then quarters. We then looked at pictures of the children’s cutting and discussed how toast can be cut in half and quarters in different ways. We are also starting to look at sharing this week.

After much anticipation the day has finally arrived to see what has been growing inside the eggs. There weren’t dinosaurs, giraffes or crocodiles but real ducklings!!! The children are very excited! We have 3 that have hatched and another on its way.
We are still looking for any old towels: please send them in to school as soon as possible.

The Nursery and Reception children had some eggs delivered before the holidays. They are currently being kept warm; the children have no idea what is inside the eggs although they have some brilliant ideas. They will soon found out so it is time for us to start collecting old towels. If you have any that we can have then please pass them to your child’s class teacher and they will ensure we get them.
