There’s a Rumble in the Jungle!

June 7, 2016 at 2:48 pm

Welcome back to school Reception!

Our new topic this half term is all about wild animals. The role play area in RH has transformed into a jungle and there have been many mischievous animals lurking around the classroom. There have also been lots of explorers!

The children have been very busy drawing pictures of animals and making signs for the new area.

We have also been reading the story ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Andreae, and have made lists of all the animals in the story. Later in the week, the children will be making animal masks and writing a sentence about their favourite animals.

In maths, we have been doing lots of number work and have started to assess the children against the Early learning Goal in number.

ELG – number: Children have to be able to count and order numbers to 20 and say which number is more or less than a given number. They have to be able to add and subtract two single digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They also need to be able to solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

News

In order to begin to prepare the children for Year 1, they have started to join Years 1 and 2 at playtimes from 10.30 – 11.45 with a member of staff from Reception. This is to get them used to the busy environment and new routines.

Don’t forget, Reception are visiting Yorkshire Wildlife park in a couple of weeks time.

RF – Monday 27th June

RH –  Thursday 30th June

Children will need a packed lunch and will need a backpack (of some sort) to carry their lunch around the park.

Have a lovely week in the glorious sunshine!

The butterflies have arrived!!

June 6, 2016 at 4:04 pm

We hope you have all had a great half term. We can’t believe we have reached the last Nursery term already!

The children were super excited to see that the caterpillars have turned in to butterflies! The first butterfly arrived on Sunday evening and the rest this morning! The children have been busy watching them and drawing pictures.

This week we are looking at what the children know about numbers and shape – counting, recognising, ordering and writing numbers, recognising 2D shapes and repeating patterns. This information will be shared with you when you receive your child’s end of year report in July.

Please don’t forget that it is our trip on Wednesday. Please bring a packed lunch and wear suitable footwear. Further groupings and itineraries will be shared again with those parents who are volunteering. Transport is provided for everyone – a mini bus and double decker bus. The weather forecast isn’t looking too bad, we may have an odd shower. We will leaving promptly at 9am so please don’t be late.

Reception Open Evening
If your child is starting our school in September please don’t forget we have an open evening next Thursday 16th June at 7pm. It is held in the North hall (same building as Nursery). On this evening you will meet your child’s teacher, find out what class they are in, what date they will start school and lots, lots more! It is a meeting not to be missed. There will be child care on offer should you need to bring your child. If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask.

The current Nursery children will be visiting the reception classes during their time here so they isn’t any need for you to bring them in to visit on any other date.

Have a great week. We look forward to seeing some of you on Wednesday.
