Busy, busy, busy in Nursery

This week we are encouraging the children to write about their favourite part of our trip to Harlow Carr. We don’t expect a sentence; we are just asking that the children make marks and tell us what they have put. We will display some of this work along with photos and paintings in Nursery this week.

We continue to learn some letter sounds: s, a, t, i, and p. The children can recognise these letters if they have them in their names.

2D shapes and repeating patterns
During our assessment time last week we found that some children were able to recognise common 2D shapes but found it difficult to talk about them. So we are doing a 2D shape hunt around Nursery and encouraging lots of mathematical language. For our pattern work we are going to work on colour repeating patterns and how we can continue them. This will lead on to creating our own patterns. Can you spot simple 2D shapes around your home?

Name formation
For the rest of the term we are going to be focusing on pencil grips and writing some letters from our first name. Some children can write their names and they are being encouraged to write their surname. We have a fine motor skills area in Nursery where the children can practise controlling their fine motor skills. If you would like us to share with you what we are teaching your child when writing their names, then please let us know.

Class photo day
This Wednesday it is class photo day so start practising your smiles!

Reception Open Evening
Please don’t forget THIS Thursday is the Reception Open Evening at 7pm. The meeting will be held in the North building (same as Nursery). You will get the opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and so much more!

Have a great week: it looks like its going to be a wet one!
