Reception have had an incredibly busy couple of weeks! We’ve had a special visitor delivering mystery presents, a visit to see Santa at Abbey House Museum and an exciting party today! The children also went to the South Building this morning for a Christmas Carol Sing-along which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Not only have we enjoyed all the exciting activities above, the children have also been making and writing Christmas cards, making calendars and have been solving maths problems such as, ‘We have 5 cards, how many envelopes do we need?’.
The pictures and videos below give you an idea of all the fun we have been having in Reception over the past couple of weeks!

Click on the link below to watch a video of the children jumping in space as if they were stars.
As well as jumping and moving as stars in space, the children have also been doing some mirroring – they really enjoyed copying each other and came up with some fantastic moves!
During outside play, the children listened to some Christmas music and played the musical instruments along to the beat of the song. Click the link below to watch a video of Jingle Bells.
Thank you for all the food contributions for the party this afternoon. The children have had a fabulous time and they even got to see a very special visitor!
Sadly, we are saying goodbye to Emily in RH today. We wish her the best of luck in her new school and we know that she will make lots of new friends!
Thank you very much for all the lovely gifts we have received and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
See you in 2016!

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the Nursery parents for your kindness and good wishes. I was overwhelmed by the beautiful card and messages, along with the fantastic gifts.
I have tried talking to the children about my name changing from Miss Stewart to Mrs Kumar but I think they may be a little confused!
I wish you a fantastic 2 weeks and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Tuesday 5th January as Mrs Kumar!!!

We even had a special visitor and the children were keen to show him their party hats. We sang Santa a few songs then he had to dash as he is very busy!

The children have tried really hard to remember something about St Andrew. They hopefully remember that it is celebrated in Scotland and they live in England. We have made shortbread, found out that our favourite porridge toppings were raisins and golden syrup and we had a go at some Scottish dancing.

This week in Reception we are learning about the meaning of Christmas and talking about how Christians celebrate.
The children will be designing and planning their own Christmas cards. They will look at different examples for ideas. Then they will plan the card and list materials they want to use and how to fix these things together. We will also talk about why we send cards and the other times people send cards.
The Literacy this week will include writing their Christmas card plan as well as the greeting inside the card. The children will also create a storyboard of the Christmas story and ‘Hot Seat’ different characters from the story.
In Phonics most children will be learning qu, ch, sh and th. Mrs Fulton’s group will begin to work on g, o, c and k and Miss Hutchinson’s group will be learning ow, oi, ear, and air. This week’s tricky word is ‘she’.
In Maths the children will be continuing to develop their counting skills and begin an introduction to addition. This will be through fun and practical activities They will use familiar objects and even themselves to begin to combine two groups.
Don’t forget our Christmas Nativity productions on Tuesday 8th December at 9.30am and Thursday 10th December at 2pm.
