This week has got off to a very busy start!
RH went to visit our farm yesterday and RF went today. Miss Howells and the Year 5 children had some lovely activities planned for us. Each class divided into groups and rotated around three activities. The children fed the chickens with Brian, picked apples to eat and weeded the vegetable beds. Please ask your child about this exciting afternoon. Look out for some photos later in the week!
This week we have started our phonic sessions. We are beginning with the sounds s, a and t. These sounds will be new to many children but also act as a refresher for some. The children receive a sticker with each sound on and a red sound button. If you press the button they will say the sound for you.
In Literacy the children will be listening to the story “The Scarecrow who didn’t scare”. We will be talking about why farmers need scarecrows and relating this to the harvest.
In Numeracy we will be practising reciting numbers to 20, ordering numbered scarecrows and finding missing numbers.
This week is our first week of the children working in both classrooms. The children swap rooms in the afternoons this week and in the mornings next week but you still drop off and collect the children from their normal room.
Have a good week from the Reception team.

We hope you had a lovely weekend and the children are ready for a busy week. This week we are introducing short carpet time introductions. We will be showing the children all the play opportunities they have in each area in the classroom.
As the weather is changing please make sure your child has a named coat on their peg. Please try to spend time showing your child how to put their coat on. At this stage adults will do any zips and buttons.
Please can we remind parents that a fruit contribution each week is required in order for us to give every child a piece of fruit for both snack times (2 a day). School do contribute to this but as I’m sure you know it doesn’t go far.
During snack times all the children are encouraged to say ‘Please can I have a …’ and this is followed by ‘thank you’. During snack time we do a lot of singing, counting, music, disco dough (fun with playdough & music) and talking.
We hope you have a great week.

What a lovely week we have had. The children are really settling in and we are getting to know them.
Over the past weeks we have been assessing the children in Literacy and Numeracy skills and will be starting phonic sessions next week. Each class will also be using both classrooms from next week so the children will taking part in both Literacy and Numeracy activities. This happens from Monday to Thursday and one week the children from RH will be in their classroom in the morning and then in RF’s classroom in the afternoon and the opposite for RF. The following week this will be reversed but you still take your child to their own classroom for the beginning of the day and collect them there at the end of the day.
On Monday afternoon RH will be visiting our farm so will need to bring named wellies if they have them. RF will be going on Tuesday afternoon. If your child does not have wellies we have some spare pairs in school. The children will be having a look at all the fruit and vegetables growing there. Please have a chat with them about it.
Have a good week, from the Reception team.

Well all the Nursery have started and they are really beginning to settle in. They are having fun exploring all the areas in the classroom and outside. The children are practising hard to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when asking for and getting their fruit and milk.
Please can we ask that you provide some fruit for our fruit bowl. We share the fruit with everyone along with some fruit provided by school. Fruit suggestions could be packet of raisins, apples, oranges, bananas, pears, grapes.
All the children have now been given a school bag. These bags need to come in to school on a WEDNESDAY only. On a Wednesday we change the children’s library books.
Nursery family tree

This afternoon, a few children from each class went to the Build-A-Bear shop in the White Rose Centre to chose a bear for their class.
Each class chose a bear and an outfit. On the left is our female bear who is called Lily and on the right is our male bear, Biscuit.
Once all the children have started their Reception class, one child from each class will become ‘Star of the Week’. The stars of the week will be able take a bear home over the weekend.
Here are some pictures of the children making the bears…
