What a busy start to the term we have had! We have made paint using mud, explored our outdoor environment looking for different objects, textures and colours, visited Harlow Carr and then written about our favourite part of the trip We think they are ready for a rest this weekend!!!!

Today we had a glorious day to explore Harlow Carr using all our senses. We started the day by being introduced to Mr Onion and Miss Acorn. Miss Acorn didn’t want to play with Mr Onion because he was a bit smelly! So we thought it would be a good idea to make him some perfume using different smelling herbs. We collected some herbs added some magic potion (water) and made some great perfumes which equally great names!!! As a reward for being such good citizens we were allowed to make a crown using natural objects we found on the ground. We made some super crowns. We are sure the children will sleep well tonight!
Thank you to all the parents who were able to help, you were all amazing!!!

We have enjoyed welcoming back the children in RC and RF and have enjoyed hearing about the exciting things they have got up to over the half-term break. We can’t believe we are over half way through the year!
Today we have been busy learning about Chinese New Year. The children have been making Chinese lanterns and moving dragons. We have also been learning about how Chinese people all over the world celebrate Chinese New Year. Maybe your child can remember what the colours red and gold bring to people at Chinese New Year?
In our Literacy classroom this week we are beginning to create our new ‘Smoothie Bar’ in preparation for our new ‘Healthy Living’ topic. The children will be carefully painting fruit, thinking about healthy and non-healthy foods, making healthy dinner plates and reading the story ‘I love to eat fruit and vegetables’ by Shelley Admont. We will also be sorting objects that have the digraphs sh, ch, th and sh within them. Our new ‘tricky’ word this week is be.
This week in our Maths lessons we will be focusing on using Numicon. Numicon help the children to develop their understanding of number and counting. We will be ordering the Numicon, building up numbers between 10-20, making 10 using 2 Numicon pieces and using Numicon to double. Look out at the end of the week for some pictures of the children using this resource or an observation on Tapestry.
The Smoothie Bar – If you have any unused toy fruit at home that we could use in our new Smoothie Bar we would be very grateful. Also any empty plastic bottles are needed too. Thank you!
Have a great week!

Welcome back, we hope you have a great week off school and are ready to learn lots of new things this term.
This week we are starting the topic ‘Let’s Explore our World’. The children will be exploring the outdoors using their senses. We will be making mud paint (yes it does work), going on scavenger hunts and reflecting on our school trip to Harlow Carr.
Harlow Carr trip
Please don’t forget we are leaving earlier than normal for this trip and we will back slightly later. In the morning Nursery will be open at 8.30am and we aim to be back for 12pm. In the afternoon Nursery will be open at 12.15pm and we aim to be back by 3.45pm. We will keep school informed should the timings of our arrival back changes.
Farsley Library trip
Next Wednesday 5th March we will be visiting Farsley library as part of our World Book Day celebrations. Letters are going out this week and as it is a local trip we already have your parental permission. We would however like some parent volunteers, the whole trip will probably last 45 minutes. The children are invited to dress up as a character from a book.
Please can we ask that you contribute fruit towards the children’s snack time. We do get fruit at school to top up the bowl but at the beginning of a term (like today) we haven’t had a delivery. If we don’t have enough the children don’t get a snack.
If you have any used egg boxes you no longer need then please forward them to us as we are making flowers next week!
Thank you. Have a great week.

On Wednesday we celebrated Chinese New Year a week early! We listened to the story of how the 12 animals argued and ended up having a race. The rat won the race as he jumped on the ox’s back! We chopped up mushrooms and peppers and cooked them in the wok. We then ate them with some rice, using chopsticks was very tricky! We read the story ‘Cleversticks’ which is about a boy at school who could eat a biscuit using 2 sticks. So guess what….. we ate biscuits with chopsticks!!! Happy Chinese New Year!

This week in RC and RF we have been very busy working in teams to create our ‘People that help us’ models. The children did very well and tried hard to listen to other’s ideas and contribute their own. They drew and labelled plans and selected appropriate materials. Well done!
Here are some pictures of their work!
Have a wonderful half-term everybody.

Stay and Read has been going for the last 2 weeks for half an hour after you have dropped your child off on Wednesdays. Thank you to everyone who spares the time to read a story – the children really enjoy it. Anyone is welcome; you don’t have to commit to it every week. Thank you for your support.

This week in Reception we are getting our creative juices flowing! We are rounding off our ‘People who help us’ topic by creating an Emergency Vehicle or Building.
Today all the children got into groups and discussed what they wanted to make. They were then shown lots of different model-making resources and set about making a plan of what their model was going to look like. We are focusing on those all important Speaking and Listening skills and encouraging children to contribute their ideas as well as listening to others. The children have also been using the internet on the Ipads to find pictures and get inspiration. We will be creating the models during the week and the children will get the chance to share their finished product with the class as well as evaluating what they felt went well and what they would do differently next time …….. watch this space for photos later on in the week!

We are reading the story of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’ this week. The children are being encouraged to join with what the pig characters and wolf say. We are mixing colours to help us make the right colour to paint pictures of the wolf and the 3 pigs. The children are constructing the pigs houses too. They can choose the materials they want to use and think about how they can get the door of the house to open!
Chinese New Year
Don’t forget we celebrating Chinese New Year on Wednesday this week. The children are invited to come in to school wearing ‘red’ clothes as this is a lucky colour in China. We will listen to the story, make Chinese lanterns and try eating with chopsticks!!
Stay and Read
Don’t forget Stay and Read takes place for the first half an hour in both sessions. You are welcome to come and join us, share a book with your child and their friends.
Letters have now gone out about our next trip which is to Harlow Carr on Wednesday 25th February (1st week back after the holidays). Nursery children will need to be starting Nursery earlier than normal on this day due to distance we are travelling. Let us know if that causes you any problems. We will also need parent volunteers to help us so please return your money and slips as soon as possible.
Enjoy the sunshine this week.
