“Postman Pat, Postman Pat and his friends from Farsley Nursery”

Monday 10th November | 5 comments

To start our week off we have been learning all about ‘Remembrance Sunday’. The children have listened to the story of the poppy and seen past services. Last week the children contributed to making a Nursery poppy wreath. We will be taking this in to assembly tomorrow (Tuesday 11th) and observing the silence at 11 o ‘clock. Our wreath will then be displayed at the Cenotaph in Farsley should you wish to see it.

Our main learning this week is all around ‘mark making’. So this has been started by the children getting a letter from none other than Postman Pat! He said he would like to see the children’s writing and drawing. So we hope there will be plenty! As Postman Pat got in touch we thought it would be great to change our role play area from a baby clinic to a ‘Post Office’. If you have any old envelopes then please send them in. In the Post Office is a notice board where we will display the children’s work.

The children will be encourage to hold pens, pencils, chopsticks and sticks correctly when making marks. We will be making marks using paper and shaving foam!

* As the weather gets colder please make sure your child has a  labelled hat, scarf and gloves. We are practising putting our coats on too. Please help your child to practise at home.

Have a great week.

The Nursery Team.

That explains Erin’s fascination for postman pat tonight! I will look out for the poppy wreath as I’m helping year 2 take the wreaths to the cenotaph on Tuesday.

  2. Danielle (Ayla's mum) says:

Ayla has told me about the letter writing and about writing with foam! She has also been very excited to tell me about the 2 minute silence you had on Tuesday and about the soldiers who died for us. Very impressed with how much detail she gives us at home! You’re obviously doing a great job!

Emily has enjoyed the addition of the post office. It was the first thing she wanted me to see this morning. She is also enjoying telling us all about the things she is learning. She has told us all about the poppies and guy Fawkes.

Emily seems to have enjoyed the addition of the post office. She rushed to show me this morning. She is also liking telling us what she’s learning about the poppies and Guy Fawkes. Think I may need to brush up a bit on my history. She has got a bit frustrated when I don’t know the answers to all her questions.

Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear that the children are remembering so much – they are great listeners!
