Autumn has arrived in Nursery!

October 13, 2014 at 1:19 pm

This week the Nursery children are using their senses to find out about the season of Autumn. We are all going on an Autumn walk to see what colours, leaves and shapes we can find. The children will use ipads to take photos of all the signs of Autumn they can see and collecting items too. We are going to be very creative this week and create a new Autumn display. The children will create their own artistic pictures using ‘real autumn’ objects and some leaf printing. Look out for a display at the end of the week!!

Parents Evening

Parent evenings are being held next week in the North building on Tuesday 21st October and Wednesday 22nd October. Nursery will be open for parents to ‘drop in’ up until 6pm on both nights. Nursery staff will be present to have a brief chat with.

Library

Don’t forget your child needs to return their library books on a Wednesday, along with their school bag.

Have a great week and wrap up warm.

Sensory fun in Nursery!

October 9, 2014 at 5:25 pm

The Nursery children have been busy this week learning about their senses. We have been doing lots of fun activities – touching feathers and jelly, tasting different flavoured crisps and smelling some funny things. We played a listening game on Education City which was very tricky.

We have a new topic in Reception …… Bears!

October 6, 2014 at 3:41 pm

This week in Reception we have started a new topic all about bears! The children will be reading lots of bear stories in preparation for our trip to the woods next week. We will also be creating ‘bear caves’ in our classrooms by painting and drawing pictures.

Literacy

This week the children will be continuing to practise writing their names and forming different letters. We will also be sequencing the story of ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and discussing what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. The children will also begin to ‘hot seat’ different characters by using masks and asking questions about how the characters might be feeling.

Mathematics

In mathematics this week we are continuing to practise forming numbers, counting forwards and backwards and ordering numbers to 20. The children have also been given individual maths targets to work on which are on the walls in the different classrooms. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about these.

Don’t forget it is the Reception Reading Information Evening this Thursday at 6:45pm. We would love to see as many parents and carers as possible please.

Have a fantastic week!

What’s happening in Nursery this week?

October 6, 2014 at 12:39 pm

We hope you have all had a great weekend. It definitely feels like Autumn today. Please make sure your child brings spare clothes to school in case they get wet on the way here – we ran out of socks this morning!

This week we are learning about our 5 senses particularly smell, touch and taste. The children will be smelling some wonderful and not so wonderful smelly items. We will also be looking at words which describe jelly and feathers. Finally we will trying out different flavoured crisps to see if they can identify the flavour.

As the weather is changing we will be looking at the season of Autumn and creating some art work so we need your help. If you go on any walks then please collect any leaves, conkers, twigs you may find and bring them in to Nursery.

Every session the children have a drink and share some fruit. We are reminding the children to verbally ask for a piece of fruit by saying ‘Please can I have a ….’ and we love it when they say ‘thank you’. Please can you encourage your child to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ at home too.

Have a great week. We will post some ‘senses’ photos later in the week.

A busy week in Reception!

October 3, 2014 at 11:08 am

This week we started our Phonics sessions. The children have learned the sound s, a and t. Each time they learn a new sound they receive a sound button sticker. If you press the button the children say the sound. This is a good way for the children to practise the sound and to inform you which ones we are learning. We learn one sound per day three times a week. Next week the children will be learning i, p and n. At home you can help by pointing out words which begin with that particular sound.
Don’t forget out Reading Information Evening next Thursday.

Nursery’s fun week!

October 3, 2014 at 9:53 am

This week the children have been sharing their family photos. They are displayed on our Nursery tree along with a speech bubble showing what your child said. Please come and have a look.

We have been looking closely at our faces – what can we see? The children have used a mirror to help them look at the features on their faces and this helped them to paint a portrait. All the children’s portraits are displayed in our cloakroom and I am sure you will agree they look fantastic! The children particularly enjoyed making face biscuits using sweets, they really did think of every facial feature – I wonder why?!

Next week we will be continuing to talk about our families so if you haven’t already please bring in some photos for your child to share.

We would like to wish all those who will be celebrating Eid al Adha this Sunday a fantastic time!
