A big well done to all the children in Reception for a fantastic start to the year. We hope everyone has a good rest over half term ready for a busy time in the run up to Christmas!
Over the holidays we would be really grateful if, like Nursery, you could collect any long tubes from tin foil, kitchen roll or cling film containers. These will be used for rocket models in the first week back!

We have a very busy week coming up in Reception! We have been reflecting on our trips to the woods and discussing our favourite parts. On Wednesday we will also be learning about the festival of Diwali.
We are beginning to do some more work on writing sentences. We are focusing on hearing the initial sound at the beginning of a word but also talking about capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We are also continuing to practise our letter formation and sorting objects into hoops depending on their initial sound. The children are also getting used to using the ipads and are having a go at recording a video of their friends.
This week in mathematics we are focusing on 1 more and 1 less. The children are also completing ‘bee jobs’ on the computer and in the areas of provision. These bee jobs include ordering numbers, writing numbers and working out 1 more and 1 less than a given number.
Please remember it is parent’s evening this Tuesday and Wednesday and we are looking forward to reflecting on a brilliant start to the year in Reception.
We hope everyone has a fantastic half term!

This week we are learning all about the Hindu and Sikh festival – Diwali. The children will listen to the story about a Prince called Rama and Princess called Sita and the horrible 10 headed King Ravana. What has your child remembered about Diwali? Diwali is the festival of lights so each of the children will be making their own diva lamp using clay. They will decorate it using bright colours, glitter and sequins.
There will also be opportunities to make a Diwali card and try out some Indian sweets. We may even have a go at some Indian dancing! The children will be watching short Diwali clips which show how Hindu families get ready and celebrate Diwali. Look out for photos of our Diwali packed week.
We would like to wish our Hindu and Sikh school community ‘A Very Happy Diwali’ for Thursday!
Don’t forget Nursery is open on Tuesday and Wednesday this week until 6pm. It would be great for you to pop in have a look round and a chat. We look forward to seeing you.
Have a great week
The Nursery Team

Lots of bears came to visit RF and RC today. They were big and small, brown and white and every size and colour in between! The children who brought their bears in have written a label for them ready to go on our trip to the woods on Thursday. There are lots of bear activities going on this week including building homes for bears in the construction area and counting and ordering bears. The children also have props to act out the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will continue to practise writing their names and learn new phonemes.
Remember it is our trip to the woods on Thursday and everyone needs to be dressed for the weather conditions. At the moment it is forecast wet and windy! Don’t forget your child needs a packed lunch.
Have a good week from all in reception.
