Harvest Time in Reception!

September 29, 2014 at 3:53 pm

This week in Reception we are learning all about Harvest and the Harvest Festival. The children will be reading the book ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and thinking about which vegetables they like to eat. The children will also be mixing colours together to create observational drawings and paintings of real vegetables. We will also be practising the song ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ for the Harvest Festival on Friday. Maybe your child can give you a rendition at home!

In literacy this week we are practising writing our names and beginning to practise forming letters. We will also be starting phonics so don’t forget to press your child’s sound button sticker when they come home!

In mathematics this week we are ordering numbers and counting objects to 10 and 20 as well as starting to practise our number formation. Don’t forget to look in your child’s communication book to see where we start our letters and numbers when writing.

Thank you to everyone who sent in photos of our scarecrows over the weekend. They looked great!

Have a great week everybody.

The Reception Team.

Nursery Bee fun!

September 26, 2014 at 3:39 pm

Last Friday some Nursery children went to see the school bees before they went away for winter. We saw the bees busy in the hive and some of us got to try the bee suit on. The children felt and smelt some honeycomb. We hope to see the bees again next year.

This is week in Reception!

September 22, 2014 at 3:35 pm

This week in Reception our learning is based around Scarecrows. We will be learning about why we have scarecrows and reading the stories ‘The Scarecrow who didn’t scare’ and ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’. The children will also be making 2 scarecrows for The Farsley Scarecrow Festival this Saturday. Mrs Fulton’s class is making a Where’s Wally scarecrow and Miss Curteis’ class are making a Thomas the Tank Engine scarecrow. Why not try and spot them on Saturday?

All the children enjoyed their first PE lesson on Friday. Please remember to bring in a labelled PE kit every week. The children also had the chance to visit some bees up at the school farm. They enjoyed listening for the buzzing sound by staying very quiet and some children even got to try on a bee-keeping suit! Maybe your child can remember any facts they learnt about the bees.

Don’t forget that there is a staff training day this Wednesday so the school is closed to children. We hope you all have a fantastic week!

New Beginnings in Reception!

September 15, 2014 at 3:14 pm

What a fantastic start to the year in Reception! We have had an exciting 2 weeks and now have all the children in both classes. The children have been very busy over the last few weeks making friends and exploring their new classrooms. Some of the children have visited Build-a-Bear to choose 2 new class bears (Treacle and Toby). We have also visited the school farm and have painted some beautiful self-portraits that are now up around the classroom for you to enjoy. Take a look at some of the photos below that show Reception’s very busy first full week in school!

This week we will be designing our very own fish from the story ‘Only one you’ that will feature in the lunch hall. We will also be continuing to explore our new classrooms and we will receive our very own tidy up areas! The children will have their first PE lesson on Friday so don’t forget PE kits if you haven’t brought them in already. Just another reminder about Library books that need to be handed back in every FRIDAY and book bags can now be brought into school everyday.

If you have any more questions please don’t hesitate to talk to one of the Reception team in school or email us at [email protected] or [email protected]

Thank you!
